Captain McBain

Would the various Star Trek captains and crews be impressed with Doc Brown's time machine, if he happened to travel to their time periods?

Now hold on. Let's not dismiss this.

Doc Brown managed to create a time machine that you activate by driving a mid-sized sports car up to a speed of 88 mph. The best time travel method available to the trek captains is hurling carrier-sized (and bigger) spaceships at a yellow star at thousands of meters per second and hoping they only get caught in enough gravity to go faster and not fall straight in. I'd say, in terms of effort and inherent risk, the time machine made out of a DeLorean is much more impressive.

Of course, neither beats the one built by H.G. Wells' time traveler, who only had to sit in a fancy chair and push a lever. :)

I completely agree with all points made in this.

88mph isn't a bad trade off for going full pelt into a star...and hoping you are coming back out the other side.

Only problem is getting a Delorean off the hands of those collectors, them guys love their cars!

Well...that and stealing plutonium to power it from Libyan terrorists. I'm pretty sure that could end badly if you tried it.

Aye but stick a Dilithium crystal or two in there instead, and you could power it for years without an issue! And no terrorism links either!

Well, he did single-handedly use 20th-century tech to make the 22nd-century Vulcan Science Directorate look like a bunch @$$#holes...

He also made one out of a steam locomotive using only 19th century technology, then gave the locomotive a hover conversion (because flying trains are awesome).

Meh, the VSD does that every time they open their mouths.

Tom Paris would be impressed, because he likes old cars.

Kirk saw time machines, and actually used a slingshot effect for field study, later to save whales...Picard saw time travelers multiple times, Janeway saw the Relativity, SIsko experienced aliens that didnt exist in linear time, and Temporal Investigations, and of course Archer had his own personal time travel guru.....so nope...

^So you're saying they all have experience with time travel and know the inherent difficulties involved but still wouldn't be impressed that a 20th century crackpot scientist working out of a garage managed to build a time machine out of automotive parts, then again out of steam technology?

Spock would probably say something like "A most impressive achievement using stone knives and bearskins." ;)

Spock would examine the DeLorian and then with Scotty come up with a schematic that reduces it to the size of a postage stamp to incorporate into all Federation vessels.

The Fed ships would be time traveling as they exit spacedock.

I think any starfleeter would respect Doc Brown as a scientist. I think they'll be especially impressed that Doc Brown developed a working time machine all on his own.

This is Star Trek we're talking about.

If Doc showed up in his DeLorean, whichever captain was around would look upon him with awe and admiration in the same way they did Cochran, then reveal to the rest of his officers the Highly Classified Temporal Files (tm) that only starship captains were privy to until that point.

And then they'd proceed to be annoyed by him and try to ditch him as quickly as possible, only to discover that whatever Temporal Prime Directive issues they were dealing with were either 1) always meant to happen or 2) they need to reset everything and wipe Doc's memory.
