Babylon 5: Awesome!

Having just finished The Lost Tales I have now, thanks to daily repeats on FX in the UK over the last few months, seen the entirety of Babylon 5. It was awesome. My family and I loved it.

Just had to share that with everyone :)

I haven't seen B5 since its original run. I bought the first season on DVD last year and this past week or so the other seasons have been released. I just picked up the second season and can't wait to get into it again. Last year I went on a marathon viewing with first season.

This is my second favourite SF series after Star Trek TOS.

Agreed. Second only to the various Star Treks, it's my favorite sci-fi show.

The only things I hated were that they didn't show Clark enough, or go in depth into his motivations, and that they showed Byron too much.

A least they made up for that by killing him.

Congrats. I still have Legend of the Rangers to see before I've seen all of B5, but with everything else, it was a great universe to get to know and enjoy. I still like Farscape more, but B5 is up there.

If I have a letdown it's the fifth season. Still some good stories there, but I thought we would get the telepath war.

Same here. I haven't seen The Lost Tales but watched all the rest of Babylon 5 including Crusade and read most of Babylon 5 novels. And yeah I regard Farscape a better show but Babylon 5 is almost up same level for me.

One thing I love about Babylon 5 is how its writers and producers especially JMS treat his audience as intelligent and mature individuals. From drama and political/goverment conspiricies to sci-fi/fantasy world and universe Babylon 5 is a bit of everything in right mix. Yes there is occasional bad episodes , writing and some awful acting sometimes but main five year epic story arc compansates a lot....

Pleased you enjoyed it.

Try Farscape next.

Yep - it starts on Wednesday!

The Lost Tales may have been too talky (especially the first chapter) but I also have to mention how great it was to see the station and ships looking as beautiful as they deserve.

I also have to mention the hologram weapons thing from Legend of the Rangers. Who's idea was that?!?!

I don't think FX are going to show Crusade. I know it's meant to be terrible, but HMV have all 13 episodes for £10. Worth it?

I don't see why everybody hates that. I think it was an interesting alternative to simply "firing phasers", or whatever the other sci-fi shows do.

Yeah definitely, It's worth looking up the alternate episode order though but I enjoyed it for what it was, it's not terrible by a long shot just didn't really find its feet.

But...but...shots of people standing in front of console pushing buttons while shouting about percentages is awesome! :p

Seriously though, the hologram chamber was a nice idea, but they probably should have stuck with original, less energetic way of using it. I personally like to think that what we saw wasn't the way it was supposed to be used (it is Minbari tech after all) but just that particular character's way of doing things.
I like to think that had the show gone on, at some point there would have been a scene where one of the maintenance people pulled her aside and said either she start using it properly, or she can be the one to clean out all sweat and body odour from the chamber herself. ;)

Awesome is right :). Babylon 5 is easily my favourite sci-fi show. The way the storylines and characters developed over those five seasons made it one of the most involving and satisfying shows I've ever seen. It's full of memorable moments and it makes you care about the people and events it depicts like few shows can. It's fantastical in many ways, yet it feels human and true to life. I could go on and on about why it's great, but suffice to say it's a special show.

Babylon 5 was okay, but suffered immensely because its primary antagonists were just unacceptably stupid and unbelievably easy to outmaneuver, who do all sorts of dumb things for no good reason, especially for a species with an alleged billion years of experience beneath their belt. But I've gone on about this at length elsewhere.

Also, the end of the Shadow War is a bit of a letdown.

On the other hand, there's a lot of good stuff too. It's certainly worth watching, but having seen most of it now, I don't really get the unconditional love it seems to get from some quarters.

I'm jealous of everyone who gets to watch these shows for the first time.

Farscape starts next? I hate you a little bit. I wanna watch it, too!

Babylon 5 is definitely one of the top 20 SF shows ever, though it prob ranks in the top 5 for space based shows. There are some awesome 3rd and 4th season eps. Farscape on the other hand is one of my least favorite SF shows.

Muppets.

I have ZERO interest in ever seeing Farscape.

I was exactly the same way at first. I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes and decided I didn't like Farscape. One day at my girlfriend's house I watched a mini marathon. I started getting interested and soon I fell in love with it. They do such a good job with the "muppets" that after awhile you see them as "real" living creatures. If you give it another shot, you might like it too.

I watched through the series in it's entirety last summer (inspired by a few "re-watch" threads on this board at the time). It was probably my 3rd time through, I first saw it in 1998 when it debuted on TNT, then again when the DVDs first hit in 2003-2004. It actually gets better, and I found in particular watching it with a bit more wisdom last year that some of the philosophical and social ideas in the series to be very meaningful to me.

The Muppets are one of the reasons I love Farscape as much as I do. They're used brilliantly, and Rygel and Pilot become very real characters in a very short period of time.

I was turned off by Farscape at first because of a few random episodes I had seen from Season 2. I had no idea who the characters were, and at that time it was showing back-to-back with Lexx, so I was equally turned off because of that.

I didn't actually fall in love with Farscape until I randomly caught the end of Season 2 on SciFi, and from there I was hooked.
