B&W Enterprise Photos in TMOST

So there are 3 views of the 11 foot model, followed by a photo of the Galileo mockup; I have nice copies of all but one of those images. The one I cannot seem to find is the one that shows the upper saucer (second in the series, as they appear in order in TMOST). I think Doug Drexler based the "beauty shot" of his CGI model of the big E on the image I am looking for. Anyone know where I can find it? I'd be happy with anything from high res jpg to an 8x10 glossy. Appreciate any help. Thx, Scott

This is the image I am looking for; would like to find or print a high quality 8x10 glossy...

I guess I still can;t edit posts, so I will add as well that I beleive this is the image that was used on the top of the official Star Trek stationery from back in the day.

One of the many times I assembled the 18 inch AMT Enterprise, I painted it bright blue with pink windows just like the TMOST cover pic.

Well, I'm looking for something rather specific, i.e. to have all 3 B&W photos of the big E and the 1 photo of the Galileo, as printed in TMOST, all in 8x10 glossy form. I just need that one shot I've mentioned above, for a binder of some of the paper Trek items I own. I found a company that sells very nice quality versions of two of the images of the Big E from TMOST (nice enough resolution that the "tallywhacker" is even visible), but they don't seem to have that elusive final shot I am looking for. I even considered printing a B&W version of Doug Drexler's CGI Enterprise, that closely approximates the image I seek - close, but no cigar. I suspect I will find exactly what I am looking for...it'll just take time.

One wouldn't think it would be so difficult to find an old promo still from the original series. Lots of shots (many CGI) of the same general "pose" relative to the camera, but not that same lighting. Then one must wade through all the bastardizations of the design that have appeared over the years, with the 2009 version being the worst (looks like a cartoon caricature).

I don't get the need for people to re-hash the same old discussions over and over again here on Trekbbs, and to express the same opinions over and over ad nauseum. But what I really don't understand is why anyone would bring up the JJprise for example just to knock it in a wholly unrelated thread.

ANYWAY, Google does have a "related images" option when performing image searches. It can be hit or miss; It surely hasn't helped me find the image I've been looking for. I remember flea market vendors back in the 70s and 80s who would specialize in Hollywood images; maybe I'd have had better luck back then.

I'm aware of the "related images" function. I also tried uploading a scan of the target image from The Making of Star Trek. I've checked various combinations of text search parameters. I've checked with multiple other search engines, and combed through a variety of sites known to sell or archive production stills. The sought-after image may be out there, but it's buried deep.

As for "bashing" the JJprise, Ensign Alens, I brought it up because it is the most recent variation on the design and so shows up at the top of many searches—along with an avalanche of many other things that have no relationship to Star Trek in any of its iterations.

I'm sorry I wasted the time and effort trying to help you search. I'm assuming you've read everything on this site to avoid going over anything that has been discussed before?

Those black and white photos were a revelation back in the day, thanks to their clarity. It was really nice to see the ship in that level of detail. The next best thing was the improved compositing techniques used in new effects footage for the third season. Generally, the story quality wasn't up to what we saw in previous seasons — but Enterprise looking better might have made up for some of the story shortcomings.

Well, I discovered that the image I want was used on one of the 1967 Leaf cards:

latest

But of course, that's not going to be of sufficient resolution to print as 8 x 10...call it "incremental progress":)

I have a color version very similar to that shot but it isn't very high quality.

I would like to know the source material of this image. Is the the real 11-footer or a smaller replica, like a high-end model kit? Is it a straight original photo, a retouched photo, a colorized photo, or a GGI image?

If it's a real photo of the real original, was it taken during TOS, or possibly after the recent refurbishment in Washington?

Alensatemybuick1: Thanks for posting that large b&w image you finally found! I wanted it too.

No problem, Zap. And thanks, Will; it is of decent resolution, certainly good enough as a "placeholder" until I can find an even higher resolution version.

Here are the other 3 TMOST photos I have:

Alens, I had to wait till this morning to see the images because they were blocked by my employer's firewall. They're way better than I was expecting. I'm dazzled by the resolution. The tallywacker, the work PUSH by the shuttlecraft door... these are beautiful. Thanks!
