Ayel....

Joel_Kirk

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This character was somewhat minor, but still a character I thought was cool....(Somewhat like the infamous Captain Robau)...

There was a scene where it was almost thought that he wasn't going to go along with Nero's maniacal plans, but he actually sticks by his fellow Romulan until the end.

Unfortunately, Ayel underestimates nuKirk, and doesn't watch his gun.;)

In the book, Ayel is killed by Nero for suggesting they return to Romulus and leave earth alone. I guess they thought it best to keep him around awhile longer.

i guess in the book Ayel is like that henchman of Khan's that urges him to forget Kirk, take the ship, and run

Honestly, I couldn't tell Ayel and Nero apart.
he was the skinny one.

i totally agree with the sentiment you express here. i disagree with all those who think that taking out the klingon sequence was a good idea.

everyone talks about how it didn't advance the plot, but at least some time at rura penthe could have shown a little bit of depth in nero's character, depth that was lacking in the final product.

That's interesting...

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the book based on an earlier script? [I think there are a couple of things in there that didn't show up in the final product].

I think those lost scenes would add depth to Nero as well.

I think what really would have added to the whole thing was the scene they cut of Ayel and Nero going to Denny's at three in the morning. You really got a sense of how Nero feels about waitresses, the guilt Ayel endures when eating pancakes with extra butter and syrup.

^ You kill me!

I also thought that Ayel was NOT going to follow Nero's order when he was told to prepare the red matter....Ayel gives Nero a funny look for a few seconds...and you can see he's thinking that Nero is utterly mad and evil. But then he follows orders.

AYEL: C'mon, throw in a buck.

NERO: Uh-uh. I don't tip.

AYEL: Whaddaya mean you don't tip?

NERO: I don't believe in it.

AYEL: You don't believe in tipping?

SPOCK: (laughing) I love this kid, he's a madman, this guy.

AYEL: Do you have any idea what these ladies make? They make shit.

NERO: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money, she can quit.

AYEL: I don't even know a Ferengi who'd have the balls to say that. So let's get this straight. You never ever tip?

NERO: I don't tip because society says I gotta. I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that shit's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doin their job.

But instead is a scene out of Reservoir Dogs

Not that Clifton Collins Jr. is a big name, but why him for such a generic role?

(And yet another actor who claims to never have watched Star Trek...I don't know if that is a plus or minus as far as casting goes.)
