What's the old adage? It takes 43 muscles to frown but only 17 muscles to obliterate your enemies. So smile.

Doesn't need to. It destroys the stairs; you fall down. The Japanese think of everything.
Not useful if they can't shield the joints and the waist swivel.
More proof that, if the Japanese ever get their way, there WILL be super-mecha some day.
Of course Japan has had a long cultural obsession with humanoid mechs. And has the leading robotics industry in the world.
Still, it's striking to me how fundamentally indifferent Americans are to things like this. Americans just don't care about robots or high technology that isn't a mobile device, app, or social networking site. Which is why when news sites report technology news you know before the headlines load that they'll be about Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft. Meanwhile, Japanese people, despite their essential social conservatism, are more open to novelties.
Japan will pioneer the first sexbots, without a doubt. Other East Asian countries will be next. America will lag by many years, but will follow reluctantly but inevitably thereafter.
