Awe, man... I LOVE Starship Mine

Not a huge fan, sorry. One thing in particular that always irks me (and I realize it's more of a television thing than anything) is how loudly it appears the trapped crew is discussing their escape plans while their captors are standing nearby.
I was trying to make that point above. They needed extras for that reception, then, they could have played those discussions believably, but I guess the budget for extras was the first thing to go.

First of all, I recall Picard (this is without going back to watch the episode) dropping his commbadge on Deck 36.

That ugly guy with 1,000 nostrills picked it up and showed it to Kelsey. I believe his line was something along the lines of "I don't think he's a barber. I found this in the Jefferies Tube."

As for your other questions, I don't know how to put all this but Picard wasn't interrested in going to the cocktail party anyway. But yet he was running away.

Hmmm....

After Picard beat up Tuvok, that's when he suspects the phony maintainence crew is up to no good. THEN the power goes out and the emergency lights come on. Then he's on his way off the ship... or is he because why would he want to leave the ship so they can steal the Trilythium?

And for your other question, about the communication, maybe Picard is lucky the phony maintainence crew didn't bother to f*ck with the communications grid.

What I don't get is this...

I LIKE the emergency lights and stuff but wouldn't all that have been cancelled by Picard delivering the line...

"Computer, cancel auto-shutdown sequence. Authorization Picard.... (his command code)!"

But would the computer have said???

"Unable to comply. Enterprise needs to be shutdown for Baryon Sweep procedure to begin."

I liked the episode a lot too. Not much really to say about it other than it was an enjoyable "Die-Hard"-esque story on the Enterprise-D. Unintentionally, I think that it made Picard's later heroic "action man" turn in Star Trek:First Contact more believable.
Now, I'm going to have to dig up my old LD of it and watch it! :techman:

Yes I think it would. I'm sure it would have been very very bad for the a sweep to happen with the full computer running.

I could never understand why Picard had a saddle. I went horse riding in those days and had my own hard hat, boots, jodhpurs etc, but no one who didn't own a horse had a saddle!!! The saddle is bought for the horse, not the rider.

sheesh

Yes, he did drop it. Later, after the power systems had already been shut down. He could have used it before then. They find it in a Jefferies Tube, so it fell off later on after Picard had encountered Devor, and realized the team on board was rogue.

As for your other questions, I don't know how to put all this but Picard wasn't interested in going to the cocktail party anyway. But yet he was running away.
Uh... of course he didn't want to attend the cocktail party, but getting off the ship to warn about this criminal crew on board the ship would be a high priority.

After Picard beat up Tuvok, that's when he suspects the phony maintainence crew is up to no good. THEN the power goes out and the emergency lights come on. Then he's on his way off the ship... or is he because why would he want to leave the ship so they can steal the Trilythium?
Of course he suspected something was wrong after encountering Devor, as he then hears over Devor's combadge the chatter between Kelsey and her team. Picard is alone... and doesn't have very good odds against dealing with Kelsey's team--he has no idea how many of them are on board. He also doesn't know if Akaria Base has been compromised. The team on board could be completely independent.

And for your other question, about the communication, maybe Picard is lucky the phony maintainence crew didn't bother to f*ck with the communications grid.
The communications grid would be off-line because main power was off. Combadges work independently of it, though. The main issue would be interference from the baryon sweep, which even Kelsey suggests when they can't get a hold of Devor.

What I don't get is this...

Logical thinking. The only thing I can think of is that the shutdown was being controlled externally by the Remmler Array, and that command functions couldn't be controlled vocally.
