For those that don't know about Awake. It was originally titled "REM". It is a sci-fi thriller but also a police procedural.
The pilot was directed by David Slade ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse").

THR: Awake, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen’s Inception-esque drama starring Jason Isaacs, is getting a lot of buzz. But it has some challenging plot turns – in one world Isaacs’ wife is dead and in the other his son is dead. Was there any concern that, like Lone Star, Awake would be too dark to find a broad audience?
Walden:
....[with Awake]. This guy is a pure hero. He’s a cop. The stories are procedural cop stories.

Described as "Inception for TV," Awake stars Jason Isaacs as a detective living out two lives in two separate realities. In both realities, he and his family are in a horrible accident. In one, however, his wife survives and his son dies; in the other, those fates are reversed. Kyle Killen, screenwriter of the Mel Gibson puppet dramedy The Beaver wrote the script, and former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon is exec producing.

two different realities for the character — in one dimension, his wife died in the car crash, leaving him alone to raise his son. In the other reality, Britten's son Rex died and now he and his wife struggle with the loss of their child. It's a twisted little tale directed by David Slade. TDB said the pilot was, "Hands down the most provocative and compelling pilot script of the season... Emotionally resonant and thought-provoking, REM asks deep questions about the nature of reality and of dreams, forcing the viewer to confront the possibility that we might be sleepwalking through life. (Much like last summer's Inception, in fact.) Equal parts mystery, psychological drama, and police procedural, REM emerges as one of the development season's most compelling and creative offerings."

Great trailer. Looks like a good series for a 13 episode series not a 25 episode/season series.
It was shameful really to have the slow motion shots from inside the car during the car accident with car roll. Couldn't the producers and the director come up with another slow motion sequence to use so as not to totally steal Inception's look?

I guess this is as close to Inception we are going to get as a series on network television.

Could be cool, but it does seem like the kind of show that doesn't thrive on broadcast. I'll watch it for as long as it lasts, unless it's a lot less interesting than the preview makes it look.

There's also the possibility that one of the two realities is the real one and he's hallucinating the other. Which would make it non-sf/f altogether.

I guess the gimmick is to keep us guessing.
