It's interesting that the school where is a tenured professor doesn't have any profile page or contact info for him, like they usually have for professors. Maybe it's to avoid hoards of fans trying to get in touch with him that way.

My initial impression of Brooks was that he was extremely hammy and not in the endearing sort of way that Shatner manages to convey. Over time and rewatching DS9, I've managed to come to a new appreciation of his performance as Sisko and actually like the character quite a bit more now than I did initially. I'm especially fond of the father and son relationship he portrayed in conjunction with Lofton. 'The Visitor' is now probably my single favorite episode in all of Trek.
Seriously? He's not participating in the documentary? That's a bummer.

He's not doing any new interviews for the documentary. According to ISB, he consults with Brooks weekly.
I don't think that word means what you think it means.
While it's a major bummer, he doesn't owe anyone anything.
I'd love it if Ira could somehow convince him to shoot a single shot cameo for the documentary. Have him dressed as Benny Russell, finishing up typing the last words spoken in the doc. Ira didn't get to do it for the show, now's his chance.

And this kind of fan attitude make me nuts. Brooks owes us, as fans, absolutely nothing. He is (and should be) free to go about his business as he pleases. If he's moved on and wants to focus on other things, I say more power to him and I wish him all the best. I appreciate we have his work over the seven seasons of DSN and I will continue to enjoy it. But I don't think that he, or any other actor, should be compelled to do anything just because the fans think they should.
Avery Brooks also refused to participate in the 1993 documentary, "DS9: Behind the Scenes", hosted by Terry Farrell. No footage of Sisko Sr appears in the documentary and his name is not in the credits.
Another actor who played a space navy captain was once heard to say “I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show. I mean, look at you, look at the way you're dressed. You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a colossal waste of time.”
While he's not under any obligation to do anything he doesn't "want to", I don't think it's "petulant or entitled" for some fans to be a bit dissapointed that he's not joining in.
At the end of the day he was all gravy picking up a paycheck for 7 years on DS9, it is dissapointing when some of these guys feel they have "outgrown" the show.
Especially when there are people like Andrew Robinson who will happily sit down for 20 minutes and give an interview to a youtube channel with 2k subs just because he appreciates the fans.
Again, each to their own but nothing wrong with being a bit dissapointed. The fans made these people a lot of money over the years.
No one said it's wrong to be disappointed.
Funny, I kind of feel the opposite. I respect those who don't ride the convention gravy train. Avery Brooks is a fine actor. He's participated and interacted with Trek fandom to the degree he wishes. I applaud him for that. Not to be overly harsh BUT I find it kind of sad that many of the "regulars" on the convention circuit have made more from their personal appearances than they ever did from their actual acting career.

for me the critical difference is between:
* It would be nice if... = fine
* Actor X should should = whiny child.
He was paid to do a job, it finished. He's got a career spanning over fifty years and multiple interests - this was seven years twenty five years ago.
Entitlement and a bit of 'what about..'- it's absolutely irrelevant what any other actors do.
There is that sense of entitlement.
