Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2
In The Avengers, Black Widow will be played by a flat-chested
Never said that.
Never said that.
, and she'll wear a hacked-together costume
Never said that.
that doesn't even remotely look like the one in the comics
Never said "remotely". It arguably does look remotely like it.
, because the movie makers find comic books embarrassing?
I said that is possible. We've seen it before. Superman Returns is a prime example. I don't know who's making this movie. I don't much follow this stuff. I've pretty much only seen the pictures here.
Oh, and Captain America's costume sucked in the opinion of some people who didn't see Captain America: The First Avenger?
So now I've seen it. And yeah, the costume sucked, though it was less noticeable than in the production stills, since he barely ever stood still. On the whole, the film was pretty good, and mostly got Cap right. And there were a dozen easter eggs for comic fans. But there were a few significant missteps.
I'm convinced. I'm staying home.
Fine by me.
I have to laugh at all the bitching about Black Widow's costume.
Hardly bitching. I stated I was amused that a halloween costume advertised for sale is more faithful. That seemed to get everyone's panties right twisted. "Amusement" and "bitching" are two different states of mind.
True, I mean not only was more than one character known by the name but didn't the costume change every other appearance? I mean Ms. Johanssen should have had a grey unitard with a big black spider on it as far as I'm concerned!
No, it didn't change every other appearance. There were a few changes, and it always reverted back to her, yes, iconic look. Even relatively obscure characters have iconic looks.
My issue isn't that it's not completely faithful, but that they've stuck her in a SHIELD uniform and called it a day. There's so much more to this character.
On the whole, though, honestly, I don't care. Like I said, Cap's costume so far looks a lot worse. But at the end of the day I don't care about this. I'll see this film when it comes out on disk, just like I saw Captain America last night. I don't have an investment here. That doesn't mean I don't get to make observations, or that my observations as someone who read comics throughout the so-called Bronze age (and dutifuly collected back issues of the Golden and Silver ages too), aren't valid, regardless of whether they're popular.
Would it help Beaker's opinion at all if Joss Whedon was a huge comic book fan and knew exactly what he was doing? I'm guessing not.
Beaker- Joss who?
Not far off the mark, to tell you the truth. I never watched Buffy or those other shows, when various girlfriends watched them and I caught 5 minutes here or there they looked fairly insipid (if deliberately so) to me. I really don't know what else he did.
Was he the guy behind Highlander? I loved Highlander.
