Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

^ I don't know if we're sacrificing either CA or IM with The Avengers. Both characters are still supposed to have their own trilogies of movies, which is generally as much as any superhero movie series gets. We're just getting extra helpings of them but as a team, not as solo outings.

Agreed on the suit though - I prefer the retro one, though the modern-day one is fine. At the end of the day, most of them are just superhero longjohns - at least they didn't put him in black leather!

Well yeah, they'll probably get their movies - but how good will they be? There was a lot of complaining about how much of a come-down Iron Man II was from the first one, and largely because of all the extra franchise crap being jammed into it to set up the "Marvel movie universe."

Ultimately, though, whether you see this kind of thing as damage is clearly a matter of what you like as an individual, and I've already stated my preference for more period-set Captain America movies - the first one isn't brilliant just because it features Chris Evans playing Captain America; it's a completely successful package as conceived and written and cast and executed, and they're throwing away everything but Evans - all the supporting characters (I know, not necessarily all the actors) and the milieu that Johnston and the others so wonderfully evoked and developed.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Yeah, I take your point. I was one of those complaining that IM2 spent too much time on setting up The Avengers (but then again, a generally poor script didn't help either), while I also will miss the WWII setting when they make CA2 (though rumour has it there will be flashbacks to that setting).

But then again, anything which gives Joss Whedon a chance to make a big budget movie with the likes of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans can't be all bad!

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Whedon and the cast are definitely what that movie has going for it.

Iron Man II didn't annoy me as much as the way they framed Captain America - the next IM flick can go back to what worked well in the first, after all, and add on whatever worked from the second. They left no doubt, though, that Steve Rogers has no future adventures in the world he grew up in and devoted himself so wholly to. And dear, dear Peggy lost forever (sob)... ;)

Bruce Wayne- Does it come in black?

I think Cap's modern suit would make a nice Batsuit.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Cap's new costume is fine.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Mmm...I think I've gotten used to Cap's retro costume. What does it say about the character and his perception of the 21st C that he's "returned" to his USO look? Rather than fussing over which costume is best, I'm just hoping some thought has been put into why Steve would opt for one costume over another. The USO costume makes sense if he sees himself as a symbol, and not just a guy with a practical mission to help win a war. There's no war, so...

I'm sorry but I just don't get the chevrons on his shoulders.

He's Captain America, not Private America.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Well, he's not General America, either, but he has stars on his shoulders in the comics.

Original Steve Rogers' Cap costume only has stars on the chest and back.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

and those silver stripes are in the wrong place for rank chevrons and so are Ultimate Cap's stars for general ranks.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

My point was the "Private America" comment was just as ridiculous as my "General America" comment.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

That comment was just a bit longue-in-cheek, in case you didn't realize it. Mind you, I still think they look very out of place.

I'm also leary about the shape of the bottom the mask and the eyeholes. They're just a bit different from CA:TFA and I don't think they look quite right.

Of course that could be the lighting. When we see it on screen it could look fine. We'll have to wait and see.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Well, what about Corporal Captain America? That has a nice ring to it! :)

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

The helmet looks slightly less crappy in closer shots, which is good.

It's also good that movies like this don't rely on blue screen any more!
