Avengers: EMH 1.1/1.2 "Breakout" pts 1&2

I doubt Kang would've been invading Westchester, though, since he seemed to be focusing on the world's major cities. And I doubt the X-Men would've just remained spectators while an invasion was going on. So either they were somewhere else in the world on some other mission, or they were helping out in some other part of New York.

On second thought, given all the high tech at the Xavier Institute, Kang may well have targeted it after all as a potential threat.

screw the X-Men, where were the Fantastic Four and Spiderman!

We were told where the FF were last week -- off exploring in another dimension. Presumably they aren't back yet.

I don't know about this "Spiderman" guy, but as for Spider-Man, he too was probably doing what he could in some other part of NYC. I'm not sure how much he could really have done against Kang's robots, except maybe blind or trip them with webbing; I think he would've focused more on helping the civilians get to safety.

anyone else think the robots were going down too easily for something 2000 years from the future?

it would have been better if they styled it like kang only had one ship. the humans try to attack and can't penetrate it. then, the avengers come and fight.

Well, at first that seemed to be a fakeout -- they "went down" while Kang was testing the Avengers' limits, then repaired themselves and resumed attacking. Unfortunately, that self-repair function was pretty much ignored in the back half of the episode.

Keep in mind the timeline of the entire Marvelverse right now. They just found Cap and thawed him out, it's entirely possible that Spider-Man either hasn't been bitten by the spider yet or he's still just a wrestler and not a Superhero.

The X-Men may still be teenagers training at the school not having gone on their first mission against Magneto yet (Magneto waiting the Kang attack out before making his move). These are the original Avengers stories being modernized, not a random mish-mash.

^But we know the MRD already exists in this show's timeframe, which suggests it's pretty close in the timeline to Wolverine and the X-Men.

good episode. glad they didn't give Thor a breathing mask, like how Superman always had one. so i guess SHIELD gets Kang's base and Princess Ravonna.

Satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Though I was hoping that Wasp was gonna hold Ravanna hostage or something. I thought Thor DID have a breathing mask?

Nope, Thor did have a space helmet, but it had no visor. Hulk, by contrast, had a breathing mask but no suit.

I liked the Right Stuff walk at the beginning and the idea of custom spacesuits for each Avenger, but I wish they hadn't all been in Iron Man colors. That made it hard to tell IM, Cap, and Hawkeye apart. I mean, what, did Tony not have any blue or purple paint?

Interesting how Kang claimed to be acting for the good of humanity, but ultimately was unable to look beyond his own craving for conquest to consider other solutions. Makes him kind of a hypocrite. If solving the problem and saving Ravonna were truly his highest priorities, he'd be open to any effective solution. But ultimately he's just using those goals as excuses for a power trip.

I was a little disappointed with how easy the team's victory was, or rather, how unexplained it was. Tony just showed up and said, "Hey, I'm a fast learner" and suddenly he somehow was able to master and subvert Kang's technology. They didn't do enough to justify Tony's ability to do that -- they just asserted it.

I did like the way the Avengers were initially completely outmatched by Kang's defenders. That was the best job they've done in this whole trilogy of making the future technology seem genuinely advanced (assuming these were tech-empowered people instead of mutants or something). But Hawkeye was able to take advantage of their overconfidence and gain an edge that let them turn the tables. I could almost buy that, though realistically the superspeed guy should've killed them all within seconds. It would help if we'd been given some reason why Kang wanted them taken alive, but that didn't seem to be the case.

It was fun watching Ultron-5 acting as a member of the team and seeing everything setup for when he turns, teaching him about violence and downloading all of Kang's tech and so on.

As for Kang, you know it would probably save a lot of time if he would tell everyone what happen and what Captain America did that causes all the trouble.

Nice F-4 cameo hope we get a larger full speaking episode with them soon.

You know thinking back to Ultron-5 it would be a good thing if they keep him on as full fledged member for a few episodes maybe even have him develop a personality so when he turns it'll have even more of an impact,or hell throw us a curve ball and not have him go bad at all.

Not that it has any bearing on this show, but Spider-Man actually debuted before the Avengers were formed.

FF (Nov 1961)
Hulk (May 1962)
Spider-Man (Aug 1962)
Thor (Aug 1962)
Ant-Man (Sept 1962) Though Hank Pym appeared earlier ( Jan 1962)
Iron Man ( March 1963)
Wasp ( June 1963)
Doctor Strange (July 1963)
Avengers (Sept 1963)
X-Men (Sept 1963)
Daredevil (April 1964)

Spidey's been in the biz longer than almost all of the original Avengers ( and Marvel's first wave of heroes)

I was wondering why they only had a few Ultrons with them. I thought they had a whole army last week. Were the rest of the Ultrons continuing to fight the Scarabs down on Earth?

As for Kang, you know it would probably save a lot of time if he would tell everyone what happen and what Captain America did that causes all the trouble.

Like I said, his fixation on conquest keeps him from considering cooperation or compromise as solutions. He thinks the only way to solve a problem is to force his will onto everyone else. If he deigns to explain anything, it's only to justify himself, not to solicit help from his inferiors. It's a mental block, a fatal flaw. He's so addicted to the fight that he's unable to work toward actual solutions. Much like many political pundits and Congresspeople today.

Yeah, I really loved seeing Ultrons working side by side with the Avengers. I hope they use them as good guys for a few more episodes before the inevitable.

it think there was a line that said something like, 'there are only six Ultrons left.' dunno if that means the rest were destroyed or busy. though i wonder what happened to the two Ultrons that saved Thor.

Or atleast keep Ultron-5 as a Good guy and have one of his copies go bad ending in a final battle between good Ultron and bad Ultron which ends with 5 sacrificing himself to save the team, leading to him to being rebuilt as the TA!DA!..The Vision!!
