Avengers 2 News, Rumors, Etc. Pictures until release...

So everyone seems pretty sure at this point that Iron Man will be one to invent Ultron. And it might even be the best option..

But since Hank Pym Ant Man has been cast already (Douglas) and filming hasnt even started yet then what would stop them from using him in then movie after all? Introducing Pym in Avengers as a (mad)scientist type who used to work for SHIELD in his youth and now has invented Big Bad for Avengers to fight.

Would it work? Would it lack too much "emotional impact" since we dont know as much about Pym as we know about Stark? Would it be too much like some random bad guy instead of something growing naturally from past movies? Instead growing backwards from future movies!

Ant Man - movie would then tell more about Hank Pym's past, but focus more on Scott Lang. Since I dont think that anyone is expecting Michael Douglas to be main (action) star of any movie at this point. So why not use him in smaller parts in two movies.

What they did in X-Men 3 could barely be called the Dark Phoenix Saga

She didn't even murder a planet of broccoli people! :wtf:

They specifically said Ant Man does not factor into their version of Ultron. I have no idea if it'll be Stark or not, though.

That trailer with the morphing helmet would seem to be steering audience expectations in a particular direction re: Stark and Ultron, no?

Whedon also said that there would be a "new origin", which makes think there will be more in play than a simple switching out of Pym and Stark.

It's ambiguous enough to not be entirely clear, but that's certainly one possible interpretation.

What about Justin Hammer? He's been co-opting Stark tech, we saw that in IM2 after all.
Sam Rockwell returns for a small role perhaps? IM3's opening monologue was about past demons that he didn't know he'd created.
Hammer is a self created demon who hates Stark. What if Hammer creates Ultron and Hammer uses his brainwaves as the initial template for Ultron?

Needs some refining but the thought just came to me.

I think Stark is the best option dramatically, but if it were to be somebody else, the military also has one of Stark's suits in their possession.

Having Hammer create something that backfires on him is kind of the plot to Iron Man 2. Plus, you don't really have the same fear of Ultron trying to kill its master. That's why I think Stark or, if not Stark, then the SHIELD organization. Wanting to kill Director Fury isn't quite the same thing, but it's better than Hammer.

They'll probably go with the pale mid-nineties version.

ETA: Oh yeah, this is great casting. Does it point toward Jarvis becoming the Vision?

So will this be a tale of Tony Stark's two AI progeny?

The thought occurs to me that Paul Bettany could play both the Vision and Ultron, or at least provide the voice for Ultron, if they're essentially good and evil twins derived from the Jarvis AI program... -- edit -- but of course not, as Praetorian Guard reminds me of below.

They've already announced James Spader as being Ultron.

I wonder, since we now know we are getting an older Pym in Ant-Man, perhaps Ultron will end up being his creation after all (complete with Michael Douglas cameo)? Perhaps a prototype AI he built and shelved that escapes and corrupts Jarvis into helping him. Jarvis (with Stark's aid) ends up freeing himself from Ultron's control and assumes the role of The Vision.

Holy crap. This movie is going to be so jammed packed full of characters.

Iron Man. Cap. Thor. Hulk. Hawkeye. Black Widow. Nick Fury. Maria Hill. War Machine.
Ultron. Vision. Strucker. Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver.

That's 14 primary characters!!!
