Avengers 2 News, Rumors, Etc. Pictures until release...

<<Ben Kingsley recently said in an interview, that he'd love to go back to the MCU, and play Trevor again, but have it revealed that perhaps the Mandarin IS real, and that Trevor was a ploy to distract people, a sort of 'hidden in plain sight' thing. >>

That was already revealed in All Hail the King.

Ah, ok. I haven't seen that short yet.

Even if Iron Man 4 were likely, it wouldn't likely have the Mandarin. That was a bone to throw at the fans to show the character's still around without having to deal with the fact that the character really doesn't translate to the 21st Century the silver screen. What's the marketing strategy going to be for the movie? Come see the Mandarin? That was the marketing strategy last time.

ETA: Huh, I coulda sworn out board supported strikethrough on UBB code.

No one doubts that there will be more Iron Man movies in the future, whether it will take 5 or 10 years. The real question is whether RDJ will be back.

If another Iron Man movie is released ten years into the future I really doubt RDJ will be back. He's 49 right now, in ten years he'd be one year away from 60. I'm sure even he wouldn't want to be playing Iron Man at that age.

I'm assuming RDJ will be done as Iron Man with Avengers 3. Hopefully when they recast for the next solo Iron Man movie, they skip the origin story entirely.

Last I heard they wanted to do this like the pre-reboot Bond films. So that seems to be the plan for now at least.

They could always udate him just they did with Iron Man and the Hulk. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a future Iron Man movie along with the Melter. For that AIM is pretty outdated now as well.

Financial returns were quite high

But that was really the result of Avengers love as opposed to the quality of IM3 itself. Much like how The Dark Knight Rises did massively well in similar fashion, not because of its own merits, but due to love for The Dark Knight.

Technically, no - but isn't it kind of obvious? It would certainly explain the difference between the box office returns and the "exit polling", so to speak.

No, it isn't. So, I figure something will be done eventually. It likely won't be as fast as we'd like to have delivered to us, but it will get done. Somehow.

Meantime, we've got this other stuff over here to enjoy while we wait.

I don't think recasting Stark is quite so easy a task as Rhodey or Banner. I suspect that when RDJ leaves, so goes Stark (though not necessarily Iron Man). The same should be true of most of the cast of the MCU. Their names and titles might continue without them to extend the franchises though: Captain America is a title that can be carried by any number of people, Thor is a name that can be claimed by anyone worthy, etc.

I'd much rather see characters leave with consequences to their and others' actions than be replaced with someone "close enough" and if the MCU continues unbroken I see no reason to plan for recasting anyone. Sign the talent to however many appearances it will take to tell their story and when the story is done being told, so are they.
