Avatar: the Last Air Bender

Thespeckledkiwi

Vice Admiral
I've been watching this show more and more and I generally found it to be a good, action packed show that is very deep and very thought out. I get confused sometimes when someone says Avatar as there are two Avatar movies coming out, though one is Avatar and the other is Avatar: The Last Air Bender.

But I like it a lot and I find the characters engaging and very deep.

It's one of the better American cartoons put out lately. Though I do like some of the Nick toons like the Fairly Oddparents, Avatar is more sophisticated and more complex than those.

I liked the first series of Avatar, but that's all I watched. But yeah, there's a live action film being released under the name of "The Last Airbender", and the other "Avatar" film is something completely different.

Check out the trailer, it's up on youtube.

The movies based on Avatar: The Last Airbender were required to drop the "Avatar" because James Cameron had prior claim to that title for his movie which he's been making for the past decade or so. So they're just The Last Airbender.

Personally, I find that a silly way to do things. I figure if you're not getting it greenlit, anyone has a claim to the title, otherwise people can't name movies certain titles because a Director has been pushing his own movie for the past decade to get it greenlit and into production. At that stage, a name change is a given.

^Cameron's Avatar began filming in April 2007, after more than a year of preproduction. The Last Airbender wasn't even announced until January '07 and didn't begin preproduction until late 2008, well after Avatar had completed filming.

Given how unimaginatively movies are titled these days, probably The Last Airbender 2 and 3. But they really should subtitle them Book 1: Water, Book 2: Earth, and Book 3: Fire.

I too am a latecomer to this show but it rapidly became one of my favourites. Had very little interest when it was being broadcast originally, but one night I decided to start watching by (ahem) certain means and after three episodes I was hooked.

The first season is excellent, but the second season is absolutely stellar, one of my favourite seasons of a TV show in recent memory. The episodes in themselves are great, but it works perfectly as a unified whole.

The third season was slightly disappointing at first. Too many pointless, often average filler episodes; I suppose the writers were trying to depict another side of the Fire nation, but it really whittled away the momentum that had been built up since the beginning. Thankfully the show resumed its awesomeness once the great battle got going, and we got a beautiful send-off for all of the characters.

I don't find myself caring too much about the film. It might be good, and it could be fun seeing a real life Iroh and Toph, but it won't compare to the series. Just use a bit of your talent this time, please M.?

So what? He still should have lost the rights to the title, what his movie is called makes no difference at all, promotion didn't even start until a few weeks ago. Avatar: The last Airbender is an established franchise and has been for years, losing "Avatar" hurts it much more than it would have hurt Cameron's stupid movie.

^Maybe, but the bottom line is: It's James Cameron. Nobody's gonna tell James Cameron he can't use the title he wants to use. Personally, I agree -- he had no reason not to change the title, and it would've been gracious for him to do so. But the cold reality is... he's James Cameron. So he wins.

AVATAR!!!

heh, i love this show so much. i was a casual fan for a very long time and have been an obsessed fan for about two years now :P

so if you like this show, definitely check out forums.avatarspirit.net... best avatar forum out there. :)

i am not, however, so excited about the movie. imho, they should just leave well enough alone... although i suppose that a new movie could broaden the fan base... idk.
