Thanks again for everyone who voted for me in the last contest. The theme for the next one is Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, apologies if this has been done before, I don't recall if it has but hopefully it's been awhile if I'm wrong.

Anyway, the theme is hopefully extremely straight forward. Since the early 1900s a succession of actors (and actresses!) have essayed the master detective and his faithful companion: From Rathbone and Bruce to Brett and Hardwicke, Cumberbatch and Freeman to Miller and Liu with some weird and wonderful castings in between (Charlton Heston??).

Holmes or Watson don't have to be the central feature of the image, but one or both should feature, even in the background. I'll allow sci-fi (because I think 'you know who' is actually rather good as Holmes) and I'll also accept people who played the role on stage/radio so long as the image is of them in character.

Usual av rules apply no bigger than 150x150 and 40kb for gifs. I'll aim to call a close to entries around the middle of next week.

I'll start the ball rolling with the wonderful Peter Cushing

Great idea! Here's a fun one. Creator and creation. This is from a Murdoch Mysteries episode (A Study in Sherlock) in which Conan Doyle ends up meeting his creation. In the episode in question, a man thinks he's Sherlock and has repressed his memories of who he truly is, in favour of his obsession with the stories, so Conan Doyle comes along to help them to get to the bottom of why this is. And they're both recurring characters, but this is the only one where they both appeared together. I'm assuming this is fair game, but if not, I'll choose something else.

The game's afoot!

I will go with the companion to the best Holmes, played by David Burke, who did such a good job at reestablishing Watson as a capable and interesting character on his own. (The late Edward Hardwicke was great too, but Burke was first and just a little more Watson-y to me).

It's him, from this full image you can see it more clearly, plus Freeman is in the reflection too.

Ok last call for entries. I'll try and get a poll up within the next few hours so there's still time to sneak more entries in before the lock.

Surprised no one has done the one I expected, so far ;)
