I have just been scanning my mother's old autograph book. The first entry which was made by her brother was on Xmas Day 1946 when my Mum would have been 14. I assume she got the book as a present. Here is the first page.

My mother's autograph book only has the autographs of family, friends, neighbours and later patients from the hospital she was nursing in. She does have some rub on autographs of movie stars but as they are not real I don't think they count.

I have never collected autographs. I know that I got a few signatures on my school year books but I no longer have those books.

Yes, I do.

My most recent was from Dan Aykroyd. He was in Austin last week, promotin' his new Crystal Head Vodka. I got a signed bottle (its shaped like a human skull) and he signed the DVD insert from my copy of Grosse Pointe Blank.

My favorite is from Tim Roth. He was in Austin with Louis Letterier to promote The Incredible Hulk back in '08. It was very much an assembly line for autographs. When ya got to the table, Letterier was signin' one corner, Roth the other corner, the poster was handed over & ya were to go back to your seat.

When Letterier signed my poster & slid it over to Roth, I asked him, before he could give it back to me, "Mr. Roth, could you add a movie quote to that for me?"

He looked up and asked, "What's the quote?"

I looked him right in the eye and said, "'Motherfucker looks like the Thing.'" It's from Reservoir Dogs, my favorite Tim Roth movie.

He grinned, said, "Yeah, okay..."

And now I have a miniposter for The Incredible Hulk, signed by director Louis Letterier & actor Tim Roth, with "Mf looks like the Thing!" written by Roth himself right in the middle of it.

Other famous folks I have signatures from include Adam West, Charisma Carpenter, Leonard Nimoy, Rene Auberjonois, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, John de Lancie, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Ray Park, David Prowse, Margot Kidder, Aaron Douglas, Dean Stockwell, Burton Gilliam, Marina Sirtis, John Wesley Shipp, Ron Glass, Jewel Staite, Amy Acker, Sarah Douglas, Michael Gross, Alan Ruck, Dwight Shultz, Gates McFadden, Daniel Cudmore, and Doug Jones.

And my collection is always growin', thanks to scifi cons in Dallas & events here in Austin.

John de Lancie, Jewel Staite, Peter Mayhew, James Doohan, George Takei, and Garrett Wong are currently on the walls.

I think my favorite is Mayhew, but that may only be because he autographed a photo of him and I.

A couple of years ago, I bought a hardcover edition of the three "Kolchak" movie scripts. It turned out to be a numbered and signed edition, which I didn't even realize. I have a couple of other autographed books around, too, but at the moment I can't think of what they are. I also have an autographed photo of James Doohan from when I met him back in the 80s.

I have an autograph from Don Knotts, the actor, and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, the wrestler. Other than that, this October I hope to have autographs from Leonard Nimoy, Christopher Lloyd, Armin Shimmerman, and many more.

Yes. I have several signed Star Trek books and several Bear McCreary soundtracks (all Battlestar Galactica except for season 4 and Razor/The Plan, plus Terminator, and Caprica).

The signed Star Trek books if anyone is wondering are Star Trek Excelsior: Forged in Fire (signed by Andy Mangels), Star Trek Titan: Sword of Damocles (signed by Geoffrey Thorne), Star Trek Vanguard: Harbinger (signed by David Mack), Star Trek Vanguard: Summon the Thunder (signed by Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore), and a few in Star Trek CoE: Creative Couplings. All from Comic-Con two years ago.

I think the only one have is Terry Pratchett because he came here to do promotion for one of his books, so I get the autograph on the cover.

I shook hands with some sci-fi actors during conventions here in Italy (actually, most of the cast of the various Star Trek series, plus a few from Babylon 5 and Stargate SG1), but I've never been one for collecting autographs.

I'm not one to collect autographs, but I do have one. John Cameron Mitchell signed a picture for me when I was 19 after an off-Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. That play/movie was very important to me at the time, and it was the only time in my life I've ever felt star struck.

I used to get them when I was a kid, although I haven't done for a long time.

I've got Roger Taylor (Queen) on one of his own drumsticks, Steven Tyler (aerosmith), Steve Vai, Cozy Powell (Rainbow), Alice Cooper, Scott Ian (Anthrax) and a few others on various tour programmes, records and guitars, but i'd have to go through my parents attic to give you a full list, and that's 300 miles away.

I have a baseball signed by Bob Ucker, and another ball signed by both Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner. I also have an autographed book by Jimmy Buffett.

Yes I collect autographs. It's been a hobby for a long time.

I have tons of Star Trek autographs. Probably the best I have is a framed poster signed by 8 of the TOS cast (Shatner, Nimoy, Doohan, Takei, Barrett, Nichols, Whitney, Koenig).

I have a framed Serenity poster signed by six cast members and Whedon.

I have framed album covers signed by Tom Petty, The Cars, Sting, U2, and my personal favorite, The Wall signed by Pink Floyd.

From the world of sports I have Wayne Gretzky, Pete Rose, Doug Flutie, and a football autographed by Marshall Faulk.

I have a framed and matted numbered lithograph of the Power Windows album cover signed by the members of Rush.

But my best piece is an amazing, 6 foot by 3 foot framed and matted poster of The Lord of the Rings signed by 49 cast and crew (including seven Oscar winners!). It is a spectacular specimen, if I do say so myself.

I used to get stuff signed but sort of let it slide after starting to get asked to sign stuff myself - dunno why, it just seemed a little weird.

OTOH, I do have all the TNG cast, various other Trek types (George, Walter, Sid, Nana, etc), all the Blakes 7 season 1-2 cast and crew, David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson, Raymond Feist, David Gemmell, Anthony Hopkins, Alan Rickman, most of the B5 cast (Peter jurasik, Andreas, Rick Biggs, Jason Carter, etc), and lots of Dr Who ones.

The weirder thing is having signed books for people like Ingrid Pitt, Colin Baker, Garrett Wang...

I never cared much for autographs but I like going to SF conventions to see the Babylon 5 cast and want to support the actors who are there, many of whom don't get paid, so I'd usually try to buy an autograph. Originally I'd have them sign soundtrack CDs from the final episode, then later I'd have them sign scripts where their character was key.

I have a few autographed books--by William Gibson, Guy Gavriel Kay, and Donald Westlake, the mystery writer who passed away in 2008.

Of the three, though, the only one I've collected in person was Gibson's.

I've loads of autographs, although I'm largely not bothered about them any longer. Most of them I picked up conventions. The one I am pleased with is Martin Sheen's. I wrote to him when he was on stage in the West End back in the 80s, and he sent a nice postcard back.

I tend to collect things that have more utility than autographs, but I do have a few: Aaron Allston, Kevin J. Anderson, Geoff Johns, and James A. Owen. I'm excited to be getting one from Stan Lee at a convention this year.

That reminds me that I actually have two Richard Matheson autographs. Besides the one on the Kolchak hardcover, I have one on a letter he sent me in the early 80s. When I first learned of the existence of the unproduced Night Killers script, I wrote him a letter asking if I could somehow get a copy-- he replied with a nice note saying that he didn't have it anymore.
