Author turnover: Why did they leave, and where are they now?

I would like to see Lang return to Trek at least.

Me too. After "Nemesis" added the B-4 to the Data backstory, I wrote to Jeff suggesting it might be useful for a followup to his excellent Data novel, "Immortal Coil", but Jeff said that his only connection to Pocket Books had been via Marco Palmieri, and with Marco's departure he didn't really have an "in" for pitching, nor the inclination to do more ST.

^ I'm sorry to hear that. I very much enjoyed his contributions and would have liked for him to become one of the "regulars".

Given how well they handled the supporting characters of TOS and nowadays we seem to be coming down with a plethora of newer minor or supporting characters, how about the L A Graf collective for a return?

Agreed. I really enjoyed everything thing he wrote for the Trek novel line.

What about the old stand-bys? When was the last time we saw a Friedman installment? Death in Winter? That was nearly 5 years ago. Considering how he used to crank 'em out, it's like he dropped off the planet all of a sudden.

Agreed. Friedman and John Vornholt are my all-time fave Trek authors and neither has done anything for a while. Would love for them both to do some more during-the-series-set TNG.

VORNHOLT! That was the other name I couldn't think of!

Whatever happened to Vornholt anyway? I really enjoyed everyone of his Next Generation books.

I am struggling with Gemworld - I keep finding more interesting things to read...

Gemworld seems to be getting referenced a lot in other novels, though.

Sure. The premise was fine. Just needed to be a tighter single novel and not a leisurely duology. Home to a half dozen different sentient races, including Melora Pazla's Elaysians. Cool!

I think I have these books, but never read them. But every time I see the title "Gemworld", I think of the 80s-era DC comics series "Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld". (I used to see it on the shelves when I made my regular weekly comics runs.) :rommie: I don't think they're related...

That's why I wanted to read it. Read half of book one a year ago then stopped. Recently finished it and made a good start on book two, but drifted off again...

Golden is writing for SW.

Which is good for Trek as it finally allowed someone else (Kirsten Beyer) to take over and actually write some really good Voyager books. Kirsten even managed to to end that awful story line Golden started and move on.

what happened to Sarah Shaw? Saturn's Children was brilliant!*

*this is a joke. i know the story.

I didn't :). Interesting to learn it's a pseudonym for Mr. Mack.

Bring back John M. Ford!

....I don't care that he's dead!!

Right on - not like that's stopped anyone in Star Trek before!

Let's get V.C. Andrews to do some Trek. Andrews has been pumping out a lot of books despite being dead.

Indeed. At this point, there are more books by "V. C. Andrews" (TM) than actual books by the late Virginia Andrews . . . .
