Is there a way to contact Trek authors via email or site? I find publishers are about as friendly as a elbow in the eye....

^ Why would you want to talk to any of those hacks?

Seriously, though, most if not all of the past/current Trek authors are listed at Memory Beta, with most of those entries containing links to authors' individual websites, blogs, and so forth.

For any of the writers who post here--and there are plenty of them who do--you can simply use the TrekBBS messaging system to contact them.

In the anthology Constellations the author Dave Galanter included his e-mail address in his foreward. I e-mailed him and told him how much I enjoyed his story and he e-mailed me back, telling me why he did the story and also other stuff of his that he had written and what he hoped to do in the near future. It made my day that he took the time to reply to me. Cheers Dave!!

If you enjoyed that you should hang out here more often, because that kind of stuff happens here too.

Thanks Dayton for that link! It's a very useful resource although I did find that several authors listed (like Greg Bear for instance) do not have their website link listed but for the most part it is good to have. It just could use a little maintenance.

I'd also like to add that I appreciate very much the interaction of the various Star Trek authors that post here. It means a lot to me to see the authors reaching out to communicate to their readers. We love you guys even though most of us do not know you except through your work and your posts on the various Star Trek message boards or Yahoo email groups. Thanks for investing in us!

greg bear maintains a website and a google search will find it. He is extremely friendly. I once asked him for advice about a principle I wanted to use in a story and he gave a detailed opinion that showed he'd actually thought about my questions and wanted to give a reasoned response.

That reminds me...

I would give out that information, but after my booksigning for SNW VI at Barnes and Noble, I'm not too optimistic about any response ...

Jeez, Ted, that reminds me of the autograph line at Shore Leave for SNW Eight... the year they didn't send any books to sell at the con...

Did they really stick you in the children's section for the signing? If so, that's horrible treatment.

No, I took the photo at the B&N. I'm also on the radio with Greg Kihn (80's rock artist). He was having a signing of his book (the same week SNW VI came out) and the line was out the door, so I grabbed the photographer. I couldn't resist.

The photo gets laughs and knowing nods from a lot of writers.

And I use it to keep my ego in check.
