Many of the people who will not get the payment wouldn't have voted for Abbott so I don't see how it is their fault.
The new rules were dated the 18th October which was the day when the fires were at their worst.
Has anyone met anyone who actually DID vote for him?
I can't think of anyone I know who I am certain would have voted for the Liberals.
In my own electorate (Franklin) - the count after preferences was 55.9% to Labor and 44.1% to the Liberals, so a pretty solid Labor victory.
n the second seat that takes in part parts of Hobart (Denison) - the count after preferences was 65.5% to the Independent Andrew Wilkie and 34.5% to Labor. The Liberals only managed 23.2% of the primary vote.

I don't know about voting for Abbott, but I know a number of people who voted for the liberals.
They seem to have a two things in common - complete lack of understanding about the global situation and absolute fear of the boat people. They all, bar one, bought into the liberal scare tactics.
The one that didn't just hates everyone. I'm sure she'll vote labor next time because she hates the libs.

I'm still laughing so many years later about the 60 Minutes piece I saw on Keating and his young family when he first moved into the Lodge. They were playing up that he had young children and the whole family was having a BBQ on the Lodge grounds. There were the snags on the BBQ and Keating, apron donned, tongs in hand turning them over. A bottle of Rosella tomato sauce prominently displayed. The nice reporter lady asks one of Keating's children, a girl of about 10, "so your dad cooks up a good barbie does he?" and she replies, "Oh we've never done this before."
