Phew. I'm glad the US military has a better grasp of geography or we would have been bombed instead of the actual Iraq. Also, why would they highlight the Czech Republic while talking to a member of the Romanian government?

There was a bit on TV recently with someone asking random Americans in the street to name European countries.

I would expect it to have been edited for humorous purposes, but it was basically a collection of shrugs, blank expressions and someone saying 'Paris ?'.

What do you think the result would be if you asked random Europeans to name African countries?

Pretty much the same -only; the European countries have had the same names for some time longer than most of the African nations have existed...

from the BBC's Panorama (in connection with the football stuff that happened earlier this year):

And a random collection (not all from the news):

Maybe this last one is a bit more cryptic to ordinary folks like us, but apparently a central Tokio neighbourhood also holds a nuclear power plant -if you are stupid enough to believe Fox News

I blame people's over-dependency on computers, in particular their uncritical acceptance of what computers spit out. Some of these are just so freakin' ridiculous, that I just can't think of any other explanation.

I blame authoritarian school-systems! -they teach people to accept authority instead of questioning it.

There surely seem to be people just going along who aren't critically challenging obvious bullshit.
