Aurora Shootings and Bomb Threats and why nobody should give in

The Aurora Shootings aimed at the Dark Knight Rises premiere, now there are bomb threats aimed at the Expendables 2 premiere. And people are getting scared off from going to the cinemas.

Seriously, people.

Go and watch these two films. Tell all your friends and enemies, and watch them. Doesn't matter now if you like these films or not, just go watch them.

Don't let lunatic crazy shit people ruin the great experience that is going to the movies.

It was the wrong move by Warner Bros. to stop and delay premieres of The Dark Knight Rises. Now the copycats are coming, trying to scare people from watching films they hate.

I realise that the chance of dying in a bomb attack in a cinema is nearly zero, and that the threats are probably false, but I do not see how waiting a couple of days or weeks to see a film is unwise, given that you lose virtually nothing to wait a little bit. You know, less people going to the cinema at the première will mean one or two less people dead if the treat turns out to be real, and in this case there is nothing to lose by going on the next day, the next week, or not watching a shitty film at all.

Waiting is no problem, but some people are actually not going to see these films, and that's just a wrong decision, in my opinion.

Going to a premiere or opening day has never been worth the hassle, waiting, and unruly crowds for me. I wait until a movie has been showing for a few weeks before I go, especially if it's a big one.

Yeah, fuck personal safety, lets go to a smelly little dark room where we might get shot just to see a mediocre film we'll soon forget. :wtf:

This is basic terrorism. With that logic you should also stop flying, riding trains, never work in skyscrapers, and never let your kids go to school because there might be a rampage.

Yeah. Overreaction to stupid threats is an overreaction, but it's a damn film. Even The Dark Knight Rises is not a big deal if you miss it, I still haven't bothered to move my sorry ass to the cinema for it, even though I know I will love it.

It's entertainment, and there's no shortage of entertainment. Unless you're a fan and it's important for you personally to watch it, I don't understand where the big loss is.

On top of it, you go to a film for the experience. If you are afraid, even if you are fully aware there's no reason to be afraid, it will ruin your experience.

Incomparable. Not flying, riding trains and working in skyscrapers affects your life significantly. Have you considered the possibility that the people skipping the films simply don't care to see it that much and anything can persuade them otherwise? I've missed concerts and films because of the equally silly possibility that I might meet estranged friends of mine. You know, the real reason I didn't go was because I didn't really care enough to see them.

As do I, I rarely go opening week(end) and usually wait 2-3 weeks before going to see a film at the cinema (on the rare occasion I go see a film that way).

Quieter, les crowded, almost gaureented not to have my view obstructed by the person sitting in front of me, unlikely to have to let some past/have some walk in front of the scree on the way to the toilet.

A chemical in popcorn butter has just been linked to Alzheimers, which might explain why we keep forgetting so many films. ;)

And the real threat of theater bombs comes from Lindsay Lohan, Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, and actors like this guy:

One of the actors from the "Harry Potter" movie franchise is facing a bomb charge. Jamie Waylett, who plays Draco Malfoy's sidekick Vincent Crabbe, has been charged with possession of a homemade petrol bomb stemming from his alleged involvement in the London riots

I already saw Dark Knight Rises and it isn't bomb threats that are keeping me away from Expendables 2. What is, is that it looks like a bad movie that would be a waste of my money.

If I was too afraid of an Aurora-style shooting to stay home from the premiere of a film I wanted to see, then I'd be too afraid to leave the house for anything since I figure I have a much higher risk of getting killed in a car wreck than I do of getting shot in the theater.

And you might die in a car accident while going to the theater. Lock yourself in a bunker now boys and girls, thats' the safest thing to do.

There better not be any threats before ST:XII.

And if someone experiences anxiety at the idea of going to the cinema they should just stay home. It's not like they are going to enjoy what they paid for.

That's the problem I see with Warner Bros.' reaction. They cancelled or delayed premieres. That's a sign for every crazy person: "Hey, I'll be able to stop this horrible film if I kill enough people."

Thye just need to make threats. It's not like the real Joker was behind the other guy and he said massacre during the next movie. Also why odes every nut like this has to have 3 names? Jareed Lee Loughner, Lee Harvey Oswald soo on. Are there any with 2 names, especialy recent ones?

I've never changed my plans on account of terrorist attacks or anything of that sort. There's no way I could predict getting caught in some lunatic's rampage, and I can't just become a shut-in. I'd end up dying of carbon monoxide poisoning or something.

Nowhere is truly safe in this life. You just gotta live it.

I kinda like the fact that this post was written by somebody who lives in New Jersey.

You might have a point if the crazy people committing these crimes had a goal of stopping people from doing these things. However, they're just crazy people who want to kill other people.

That's their goal.

"Not giving in" is pointless, as there are zero demands to give in to. This isn't some 9/11 DO IT FOR FREEDOM coming together where we as a people need to hold hands, stand fast, and show we're united. They're not fighting some cause or some way of life so there's nothing to fight back against.

I went to see Batman the weekend it opened. Not for America, my spirit, or to help out Chris Nolan. I just wanted to see the damned movie.
