August 2010 Challenge Theme: TDY (Temporary Duty)
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story where a Star Trek character finds him/her/itself in an assignment outside of the norm. The assignment could be a result of a temporary duty re-assignment or a sudden crisis in their normal billet.
The goal is to take a familiar character and have them do something unfamiliar. (If you ever read the ST novel, "Doctor's Orders," where McCoy is placed temporarily in command of the Enterprise, you've got the idea.)
Word limit: 5000
Deadline: Midnight, CDT, August 28. Voting will take place August 29 - 31.
Characters may be canon or your own creation, of any ST era. Obviously, this works better if the character(s) are at least somewhat familiar.
