Maybe Publiusr is drawinga comparison with the rechargeable batteries used in devices like laptops. Remember the units that literally got hot enough to ignite the surrounding polymers?

Sincerely,

Bill

Greetings Skipper,
This my first post on This board and I say "Thank God" some one has finally figured out a believeable TOS Phaser rifle!!!! As an original generation of "Trekkie", I am thrilled that you have come up with not only a believable, but "do-able" Phaser rifle!!! One minor comment though, since the Unit 1 already has a targeting sight, I think that a gooseneck viewer might be a little redundant (although "cool" looking none the less). Yes, I am going to build at least one of them if you don't mind. Has anyone tried to check w/ Matt and John's relatives to see if the plans for the unit 4 even exist? Since the "powers that be" gave the Trek impramater(sic), that rifle of yours is going to get built. And yes, I'm an U.N.C.L.E. fan too and had "The Gun" as a kid and the Japanese version put out by Replica Models in the early 70s.
Cap, a Salute to You for helping this Vietnam Vet fufill a teen-aged fantasy, finally!!!!!!!!!!!! By the by, are there any of those Gooseneck viewer dimensions around anywhere,

Stryker

Not big on incorporating previous phasers into a rifle. I like seeing them being their own individual designs instead, akin to the original one we saw on screen.

So is there any way for non-mods to tell if a person is banned or not? I don't see anything at a glance on CRA's profile.

The only reliable signal is if a user's avatar, signature and link to PM them all vanish at the same time, it's safe to say they were banned. Otherwise, no, you have to keep your ear to the ground.

Greetings to all,
Too bad about Bob April, but I am going to attempt his design all the same because if the "powers that be (or were) say that it looks like something Mr. Jefferies would have designed, well that's good enough for me. I am waiting on the local costume shop to get in the Rubies Phaser pistol squirt gun before I will start on mine. Since I have no way to put photos on the net, ( I have to use the local library, can't afford it myself), perhaps when I am done, I might be able to send photos to this thread, via one of you kind souls. It will be another month or so before the shop gets it in.
All my best,
Stryker

I will admit I'm not totally satisfied with the butt, but it'll work for now.

I think that - for me - yours looks too much like what it is, which is a hand phaser with a thicker, longer (stop it) barrel and two pistol grips standing in as proxies for power packs.

I have to imagine that the in-universe power pack is protected somewhat by the cladding of the pistol grip, not just snapped onto the weapon.

I think that your take would look and work better as a rifle modification for the phaser pistol if it were one piece that the pistol plugs into, and if you can come up with a new design for the stock that protects the power pack.

If I read the initial description right, the point of this design was to show what was the likely concept Jefferies was probably going for, particularly within the budget constraints of the show, as well as trying to get a little of the action the Special UNCLE gun was getting in the toy stores.

I'd say this fits the bill quite nicely.

I'm gonna track down one of those "23rd Century Pistol" kits and put together the add-on bits to make one of my Phaser II's into one of these puppies...

Hello all and a safe 4th of July! I know this thread has been all, but dead, but wanted to give the members an update. I've extended the barrel to 11" and while Bob April wanted to use an M-16 bi-pod, but even extending the barrel the bi-pod overwhelmed the gun, so....I have added a horizontal foregrip on the barrel made of 2 side by side powerpacks. The Napoleon Solo gun seen in the pictures also had a foregrip made of a 1934 pistol grip. I'm looking to use an adjustable compass to make the bipod. The silver portion of the barrel will be made of the original silver section BUT instead of the tiny beam emitter, I will be making the emitter out of the "Laser Beam Emitter made of the clear step down of transparent rods. It looks good on paper, but we'll see how it looks in reality. That's it for now. Cheers, Folks!!!!!!!

Closing this, since the original poster has been banned for almost a decade at this point.

@Stryker, should you wish to share your work on this project at some point, please start a new thread. Thank you!
