In honor of this month's NASA triumph of successfully landing Curiosity on the red planet using the goofiest Rube Goldbergian approach imaginable, let's take this month to see the planet Mars in Star Trek's future!

The initial human landing? An early colony? A bustling city of the 23rd or 24th Centuries? A ship on approach? The orbital shipyards? Really anything in the Trek setting that involves the planet Mars in some prominent fashion.

I look forward to whatever extra shiny thing Klaus comes up with...

And the rest of you are welcome to participate, too!

Funny how I just posted a reply in last month's contest. Didn't even see this thread till after I posted it.

I wonder if Curiosities' approach to the Red Planet was why AMC was airing Mission to Mars a few weeks back?

I noticed that. But that's fine, all these posts kinda look alike, it's easy to miss one. And I'd love to see you, JES, make something that has some good guns on it! After all, Mars was the Roman's god of warfare!

BTW, I liked your entry for last month's challenge the best! I had an uncle who worked at Boeing for years so it has a soft spot in my heart...

At this point, I am currently in the concept stage for what is supposed to be the spacecraft used in the first manned mission to Mars, but I'm much better at creating craft that are more advanced and have less limitations, as opposed to the more realistic, gritty spacecraft that require more attention to detail.

So I'm very much liking that idea, making something heavily armed, maybe not with guns exactly, but with phaser banks and torpedo tubes in spades. And it would make sense to make some warship that bears either the name Mars, or one of his pseudonyms (Ares or Apollo). At this point now, I'm thinking of making a battleship along the lineage of the Mars class and the Proxima class, and would have started already if I had known it would meet the criteria. I probably won't have time for a completely new design, but one that uses parts derived from other existing modules, like the Federation and Saladin classes do, for example. At this point, I'm thing of doing something from the lost era, based a little off of the Ambassador class, since there is a lot of unused space in that area.

And I really appreciate the compliment.
