First, thanks again for another opportunity to come up with a theme for this. I hope this will be something that gets your creative neurons spinning and we will see another great turnout like last month.

After much thinking I've come up with a video game related challenge for this month: The mission — should you choose to accept it, Jim — is to take anything Star Trek and adapt it for the world of video games.

So, for example, the cover for a never released Enterprise jump'n'run platformer or a mock in-game screenshot of the TOS ego shooter that never was or the 8-bit Voyager RPG you always wanted to see realized or or or …

The only rule I would like to set is that no existing Star Trek games should be used for your entry. So no edited imagery from Elite Force, STO etc. (Sorry all you Machinima artists out there!) Other than that you are completely free in however you want to tackle this.

I'm setting no specific date this time (I've learned from my mistakes ;)), so all of you got until the last day of the month to enter.

Any feedback, questions or suggestions? :)

I'm looking forward to your ideas, guys. And now push “start” and get creative!

You don't have to play a video game, @gazomg - just draw one ;)
And being a grown up isn't anywhere near as much fun as being a kid. Unless one acts like a kid... Such fun!!! (I've just binge-watched the first series of Miranda :guffaw:)

count me out, video games is for kids and people who never matured.

No thanks
Come on, @gazomg, posting on an internet message board dedicated to a nerdy science-fiction franchise (and in a subforum that's all about creating fan art for said franchise) you must surely be aware of the irony when declaring video games are for kids and childish adults.

I know a lot of very mature adults who enjoy playing video games from time to time. Nothing wrong about that. I get that you don't enjoy them, but please let's not belittle those who do.

Personally, I'm not into modern video games either. I'm more of a retro gaming guy, enjoying simpler games on the Super Nintendo or Game Boy. But at the same time I can see how the video game industry has shifted their attention away from just children to adults, with games that feel more like full-scale movie productions, employing intricate plots, a-list voice acting and graphics that gets more realistic every year. Dismissing all that as just “for kids and people who never matured” seems unwarranted to me.

I'll probably still be on Newbie probation when this ends but maybe to get others creative juices flowing. some titles to have fun with.
Left for Red
Red shirt redemption
Star Trek 40K etc....

Now that's the spirit! Thanks for the suggestions. And please do feel welcome to participate in the contest, there's no such thing as “newbie probation” on this board. :)

You might have someone post it for you

Not necessary, as I alluded to above. The “newbies can't post images” thing is a thing from the past. The current forum software let's you post images right from the start.

Hmmm, this may be more difficult than I thought. Every idea I've had so far (that's within my capabilities) has actually been done in one form or another! Actually surprised me that there were that many Star Trek games in the early days of gaming.

Hm, it looks like this might not be such a good idea for a contest theme after all. Should I try to come up with something different? :(

When I think about your cartoon style, @B.J., something like Leisure Suite Larry, only with Quark as Larry for example, comes to mind. Or any other adventure game that uses a comic style.

^ That is brilliant! And it's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about when I came up with this. Love the pixelated bird-of-prey! :rommie:

Trying to figure out how I want to twist Mass Effect and Star Trek....

Can you do a cover and then several mock-ups of gameplay like they were putting together an ad for a gaming site?

I'm thinking cover, a cutscene example with dialogue options, combat, and then maybe a Renegade/Imperial interrupt option LOL

Sounds awesome to me. Go for it! :)

:):)This sounds like fun. I can't wait to see some of the stuff!
I've never really played video games. Maybe in an arcade in the 1980's.
I only do 'classical' art.
