Star Trek 2009 is seen as best thing ever in Star Trek, and the TNG movies sucked ass, and TWOK is the best TOS movie, etc...

Well, I'm in Germany at the moment, and one TV station announced a Star Trek day leading up to Star Trek 2009 in free TV. It starts with The Motion Picture and The Voyage Home. Right in front of Star Trek 2009 run Generations and Insurrection (no First Contact), and after it they run Nemesis.

No TWOK, TUC, TSFS or TFF

Is TNG stronger in Germany? Or is the notion "TNG movies suck" just concetrated in the hardcore fanbase? I'm wondering why they leave out First Contact and TWOK.

I actually liked the TNG movies. First Contact is recognized as one of the best of all Star Trek movies.

I find it curious because it's said that TNG movies killed Star Trek and only a TOS reboot saved it, and the TV station packs nuTrek and TNG together and leaves most of TOS out.

Perhaps there is nothing more sinister than a rights issue. The TV station didn't want to pay for the rights to air those films. Or when they bought the rights to Star Trek (2009) those movies where thrown in.

The internet has a way of making people gloss facts and opinions over alike. The terms you use or so broad, I don't really recognize them as what the Trek movies really are.

Exactly. Seen by who? The opinions of the teeny-tiny minority of Trek fans who post on the TrekBBS? Or do you have reams and reams of polls and data taken from all over the world?

I would probably have to say that First Contact is my favourite of all Trek films, with TWOK a very close second.

As for the TNG films killing Star Trek, it was in decline since Voyager, seeing as how they weren't ever willing to do something different and drastic. It doesn't help that Nemesis was just an all round poor film.

ST09 was good, but it hasn't made me appreciate Trek in a whole new way, it's an interesting "what if" concept which will no doubt be explored further, hopefully the PTB will get back to the Prime Universe as well.

I like the TNG movies just fine. Even Nemesis, while clearly a weaker movie, had elements that I enjoyed quite a bit.

And I love FC, but it feels LESS like Star Trek to me and more of a action flick then Insurrection, which had a lot of flaws, but had more of a TNG feel to it then FC.
