ATTN Hairy Guys: Come here a minute

Have you tried the Jackson method? There is a little discomfort that goes along with it, but it is very quick and you only have to do it one time.

I've got nothing to say about hair, but I do have to say that when Han cuts open Big Bird with the lightsaber that scene is going to be alot more poignant.

So my chest and back are akin to Sasquatch and I'm finally going to thin the forest (or the Troll sweater as it's been called).

Shave?
Wax?
Nare for Men?

What are the best ways to go about this? I've shavaed before and it cost me about half a dozen razors and took forever. The waxing thing looks brutal, and the nare seems too easy to be true.

Thoughts? Examples? Horror Stories?

Waxing will prob hurt a lot if you are that thick...I'd say hold off on this one.

Shaving is fine, but you will need to trim hair at least by half with a trimmer...this will take time...but I doubt you'll need more than 2 razors if you do it properly.

Nair for Men works well...but again I recommend you trim the hair by at least half...then soak/shower in hot water for 4-5 minutes..pat with a towel but NOT completely dry. Then apply the Nair seperately, first the arms, then torso, then legs.

In all cases, use lotion for at least a few days after, if not continuously. I use Aveeno.

Clean shaven:

Be careful with Nair. I've tried it, and it just ends up burning and irritating my skin.

Its not supposed to stay on for more than 5 minutes...for my hair it takes longer, that's the reason for soaking in hot water for 4-5 minutes first, it makes the hair far easier to remove.

RAMA

I'd say keep it. I like hairy guys myself... but if it is making you uncomfortable that is a diffrent story. Don't use nare it's really sub par. Don't use any remover. Go get it waxed by a pro I'd say. Sure it hurts but it only does for a moment. Plus how in the world are you going to maintain by shaving, especially your back? Sounds like razor burn and ingrown hairs just begging to happen.

I'm hairier than most, but outside my ass - which was causing, ah, practical difficulties - I've never bothered to do anything about it. Don't like it? Yeah, well I don't like you either.

They came with the rest of me. I don't lift weights or do crunches or anything like that.

Whatever happened to Nads, the most poorly named trendy product of the 90's?

They started selling it at Walgreens and nothing says "illegitimate" faster than landing in the $9.95 bin at Walgreens.

This many replies and no one has posted the waxing scene from The 40 Year Oild Virgin Yet? For shame!!!

Yes all the swearing is deleted, but it's the best version I could find.

Just a warning: legitimate/serious hair removal is a major cosmetic undertaking. Each method is involved in its own way. First and foremost, do what you feel comfortable with and try not to be too hard on yourself. I agree with previous posters who say just take care of things on your back and then closely trim the rest.

I'd say leave waxing as a last resort. If you have coarse hair like many men, this will be very painful and I would recommend securing a narcotic painkiller before this procedure in addition to trying the other methods first.

I suggest Nair Speed Cream for Men first. This product is fairly new, fairly inexpensive, and it works pretty well even on coarse hair, but you have to be willing to put up with the smell, even after you rinse it all off. I found it to be worth it since this method lasts a few to several days longer than shaving, but I like to allow myself an extra shower or two after using it in case it lingers. Follow the directions and leave it on for about 10 minutes. You must apply it thickly and uniformly, though. I have never noticed significant acne/ingrown hair problems with Nair and obviously the threat of razor burn is naught.

If you don't want to use the cream all the time/never again or you want to switch it up, buy a good razor and shave it. You will get used to the awkward positioning if you have to take care of things on your back. Guides will tell you not to shave against the grain, but you have little choice if your hair is coarse and thick, so go for it. Shaving will leave you very smooth, but the hair grows back quickly and you run the risk of developing large areas of pimples, razor burn, and/or ingrown hair. So, go ahead and shave it off. Right after you shave it off, if you're not in the shower already, use a good benzoyl peroxide wash (Clean & Clear Continuous Control is my choice) on the areas you shaved. Towel dry the area. After showering, apply hydrocortisone cream. These steps will help prevent any major problems.

Instead of nair, perhaps try one of the Magic depilatory products. These are made for African American men whose beards are often too coarse to shave. These products get great reviews and don't have the burning issue that Nair does. It is also cheaper.
