Atlantic Rim - The Asylum's new Sci Fi Epic (7/9/2013)

Well, I guess for whatever reason our computers are telling us something different. I don't know. Whatever, Wikipedia does mention the movie has three different titles, anyway.

I have to think it is geographic.

Too late to re-title it here, DVDs are printed and in shops.

Yea, I clciked into the first 3 actors and they're all credited for Atlantic Rim.

Might be a browser cache issue (If recently changed), I don't want to clear my cache, because I have cookies I need for business purposes.

Probably not a good sign that there's more talk in here about this cheap knockoff movie than Del Toro's big budget one about to be released in theaters....

I am surprised too! I love giant monster movies and I thought someone would have started a thread about it.

Apparently it's only tracking for a $30 million weekend (behind Grown Ups 2, for christ's sake), which I frankly think might be a bit generous.

Unfortunately the trailers are just making it look too much like a Transformers knockoff right now-- and after those movies it's hard to be as impressed with giant robots stomping around cities anymore. Which is probably why the general audience is just shrugging their shoulders right now.

I think it looks great and I'm generally a fan of Del Toro's movies. But I don't have much to say about it until I see it.

I really liked the idea for Pacific Rim when I heard about this movie being made a couple of years ago. But I must admit I was a bit shocked to see how much it looked like a Transformer movie when the first trailer came out.

That shock has worn off and it does look like a good popcorn movie but I do fear it will have a limited appeal.

I say this as a huge Godzilla fan and hope that that movie will have a wider appeal next year.

It looks like a Transformers movie... minus all the things that make those movies such agony to sit through. I'm fine with that.

I am fine with it now, I actuallu like the first and the third Transformer movie, I just wasn't expecting it to look that closely like one.
