At the Movies reviews Star Trek (no spoilers)

I just watched an early review on the show At the Movies, which used to host Ebert and Roepert and they have given Star trek a very positive review.

I cannot remember the names of the new hosts but they did stress that it is not a special effects driven movie! They said that this is a very character and story driven movie and is accessible to both new and old fans alike.

They believe Pine has done an excellent job portraying Kirk with his confident swagger without mimicking him. They also praise Qunito in his portrayal of Spock and state that Nimoy is a very important ingredient to the story an his appearance is not a glorified cameo.

The only negative said by one host was that he didn't think the special effects were anything spectacular.

In the same show they both gave a negative review to Wolverine in saying that it is not about their characters and they lost the spirit of what made the first two X-men movies good. They recommended that people skip it.

...a negative review to Wolverine... They recommended that people skip it.

87 million in opening weekend ticket sales suggests few, if any, are listening.

Yeah. The reviews won't mean much to X-Men fans. They are invested in it the same way Trek fans were invested in the Trek movies regardless of the reviews. (Well, except for NEM in my case.) And, the last two Pirates of the Caribbean movies got some horrible reviews, but that didn't stop people, either. Fans are fans.

In the case of rebuilding the Trek franchise, though, that good reviews are coming from sources that have a lot of public exposure can only be a good thing. It's kinda like daring people who aren't Trek fans to try it. Maybe this will be an event movie.

So even the English chick gave this a positive review? She's very picky and just doesn't hand out good reviews right and left....I don't watch it often but when I've caught it she's been a pretty big bitch -- which I like in a person! :techman:

I think I may be getting mixed up with reel talk...

I don't watch At the Movies anymore because one of the hosts (Ben Lyons) is the Uwe Boll version of a film critic. But how could you not remember what he said when everything he says about a movie is a catchy (but empty) line that can be used for movie ads? :p

The review on on the At the Movies website, which I :shudder: watched. No spoilers given in their review. Hell, it looked like the only footage they showed were the scenes available to watch online.

And I was right about Ben Lyons... he snuck "event movie" in there.

What's not to like, very good reviews!! Especially the point about it being character driven and not FX driven.

The reason that those clips are the only ones they can show is because those are the only clips that Paramount has released. It's not like reviewers have the entire movie to pull clips from.

Yeah these were excellent reviews...I've never seen these guys before I think I got confused with reel tawk...

Thank goodness more affirmation that it's character/plot heavy and it's not just let's blow this up and kill that...
