asteroid might hit the earth tomorrow

Obscure comic strip reference of the day:

Is it the comet Kohoutek?

What comic is that referring to? I'm old enough to remember the real Comet Kohoutek ....

Me too. :sigh:

Oh my! I think my number is up!

(I have always said that I would be killed by an asteroid or falling satellite, since I love space and the space program so much. Or I will be killed in freak cow stampede, since I am a vegetarian. :rommie:)

What about a toilet seat from a space station?

edit to say - (oops I just notice there is already a reference to Georgia Lass).

Yeah, you BOTH beat me to it! :klingon: :p

I miss that show. :(

^ Actually I was being serious. You know how Kirk knew he would die alone? I know I will go in some really weird way and make the evening news.

But yeah, Georgia Lass is funny. However, my reference to being killed by a satellite would really be more of a tip-of-the-hat to Rick's death (Maggie's boyfriend) on "Northern Exposure". Now that was hilarious... especially the way they had to modify the coffin to compensate for the antennas.

^ And if that doesn't work I am sure his hate mongering will land somewhere more profitable. :vulcan:

Did they ever figure out exactly what this thing is? I have been looking around I haven't been able to find anything.

OMG!!! I totally forgot about that until I just read this. I used to love Northern Exposure. This summer, when we were in Alaska, I was particularly thrilled by our stop in Talkeetna because I knew it was the inspiration for Cicely. I can't believe I forgot that bit.

One of the best "sight gags" ever!

should i bring my dog inside?

Yes.

Your dog and any other pets should be brought inside and stored in the basement until this crisis has passed.

Additionally: smaller pets such as poodles, kittens, polliwogs, crickets, wallabees, and manta-rays should be wrapped in alternating layers of aluminum foil, duct tape, and taffy.

Stay tuned to this station for additional bulletins as they become necessary. The Emergency Broadcasting System was set up to inform you in the event of a national emergency, and keep you up nights with severe anxiety. If this had been an actual emergency, you'd be dead now.

Thank you.

It's being discussed on the space.com forum: http://www.space.com/common/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=22114, and it looks like a small asteroid.

It reminds me of the fate of the S-IVB stage of the Apollo 12 launcher, which has achieved an orbit around the Sun that allows its periodical capture and release by the Earth. It was launched in 1969 and in 2003 found to have come back, only to move away again later.

Fascinating. :vulcan:

Like Mary Tyler Moore and Chuckles the clown, it was one of the only times I have every felt it was alright to laugh at a funeral.

The way my day has been going, having an asteroid land on my head would probably be the least surprising thing to happen to me...

Alex

*brushes teeth with asteroid cream* When am I going to get this language correct again?
