Rereading this book and enjoying all the little throwaway references. But did not get the one about a plot to replace national leaeders with clones. Where's that one from?

Honestly, at this late date, I can't remember. I'm suspect I was just trying to imagine what a typical "Assignment: Earth" TV episode would be like. That sounds like the kind of plot you'd see on The Bionic Woman or The Night Stalker.

I may have also been thinking of Futureworld, which had world leaders being replaced by robots.

Nice bit of synchronicity, then, that John Byrne's Assignment: Earth comic had a ploy to replace Nixon with a clone!

That's probably it. Not being a comic book reader for several decades would explain me not picking up on that one. (Heck, a clone probably would have been better than Nixon.)

Just to be clear, I wasn't referencing the John Byrne comic, which was published eleven years after my book!

That's just a funny coincidence.

As an aside, I think it's so cool to be able to post a question about a book and have the author answer it.

Although it's too bad that the author's memory is getting so fuzzy! ::)

I can't believe that it's been fifteen years since I wrote that book . . .
