After Sen. Obama's comment Thursday night, at the Alfred E. Smith charity dinner, that he was actually from Krypton, sent here to save the planet Earth, I couldn't resist using the Poser version of the candidate (a really well-done likeness, too!) to put a Star Trek twist on it:

You can claim otherwise but it IS shamelessly political. The topic was deliberately misleading. The post has nothing to do with A:E.

Sorry, dru, but the only thing I see that is shamelessly political here is your avatar. I interpreted a statement ("I was sent here to save the planet Earth") said as humor through the lens of our common interest on this board, Star Trek, using the title of an actual episode that perfectly fit that phrase. The topic wasn't deliberately misleading - it was a play on words.

And how do you know Gary Seven never wore the Starfleet uniform? We only saw one day in his mission, and time travel was certainly a part of his arsenal; I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that he did, at some point, impersonate a Starfleet officer. Heck, he'd have made a pretty decent Vulcan .

I disagree. Right now, anything featuring either Presidential candidate, no matter the situation, is inherently political.

Politicians are a sticky subject here anyway. Even if I were to make something featuring, say, George H. W. Bush or Bill Clinton, it would get attacked politically even though neither is running for anything right now.

Oh, I don't deny that portrayals of politicians are, generally, inherently political, if only because that's how some of the audience filters them; it may be different with, say, a Ronald Reagan movie, where he wasn't yet a politician, and there's a clear difference in context, at any rate. I mainly disagree with the "shamelessly political" statement - I made no stance one way or the other, but simply created a visual play on his words that tied to the main theme of this board. That's why I asked at the beginning that this not be made into a political discussion - it wasn't intended as one, and that is, frankly, off-topic; we have another forum where such discussions can take place.
