Ashes to Eden..animated miniseries...

I think Shatner should look into producing direct to DVD animated versions of his books. DC COMICS has been very successful releasing these things that are hardly connected at all to each other...so why not Shatnerverse DVDs?

Doesn't he have a CGI company somewhere???

And its not like they have to worry about continuity because the books dont seem to either..just due stand alones like DC does..

Given that the movies no longer seem to worry about continuity, there would be no reason for these to.

I've actually enjoyed some of the Warner Brothers DC releases. I thought Justice League: Crisis of 2 Worlds and the Public Enemies, while both certainly could have been better were definitely worth watching.

There are a number of Trek books out there that could probably make for decent stories in this kind of venue, so long as they resisted the temptation to keep the animation fairly close to what would appear on live action.

I often wondered if somebody took the time to do the labor of love required to create a feature length animated Trek movie from scratch... more or less ready to market with the exception of plugging in celebrity voices, would Paramount go the rest of the way, hire the actors and market it.

Im not sure...but its a good question. Like you said, there have been several great books. I wouldn't even care if they hired new vocal talent to play the 'big' parts, but only if they were signed for multiple movies. I have watched many animated works over the years, as I am sure you have, and there are some really great acting talent..in fact...check out my new post on this very subject in this same forum...casting STAR TREK animated movies..

I think they should have filmed AOE as a tv miniseries to mark the 30th anniversary of Trek in 1996 - IIRC, all the actors were still alive then.

I remember a story in the UK Star Trek magazine around that time that there was to be a tv movie or miniseries with the original actors save for Shatner - presumably, it would have been set after Kirk was lost at the ENT-B's launch. Obviously - and sadly - this wasn't true.

Was the the USS Excelsior series?

I hope not. I have never been a fan of that idea. If it had been with the others minus Kirk, then yeah, maybe...but a movie/series based on Sulu's ship would have been a disaster...IMO...

I think one-shot star trek animated movies would be a great idea! The Ashes of Eden would be a great first movie to introduce the concept. there are tons of books that could be converted, and others, with a little tweaking that would be fantastic, i would love to see, TNG's Vendetta, Shatner's The Return, and Greg Cox's Khan books, maybe even an original story about the earth-romulan war. I guess the question is, if paramount did decide to try an animated movie series, would you watch them?

Yes...especially if the authors, like Greg Cox if they did his, or even shatner and his cowriters, had some sort of say in the script...

Rob

I'd watch them for certain, as long as they weren't overly cheesy and at least somewhat faithful adaptations of the books I liked.

Whether or not I'd buy each and every one for 20 bucks a pop on DVD... I don't know.

The DC Animated Line is a step in the right direction, but it's still not hitting on all cylinders. I want them to go all out and do the things animation makes possible. Tell the stories and cast the characters that you just couldn't tell in the live action Trek Verse.

Definately...I would even suggest a Paramount/Warners joint venture so that they could benefit from Warnar's experience with animated gems (Batman--JLA--DC universe cds)...

Rob

If Paramount did direct to DVD animated films based on Pocket Books like "Ashes To Eden" similar to how DC is doing their animated DVD's I would pick them up. I love "Ashes To Eden" have the hardcover, graphic novel, and audio book! "The Return" would be interesting to see as well.

I would have liked the first 3 Shatnerverse done in graphic novel. That's what I would have liked! As a whole, I wish there were more graphic novels out there for un-makeable franchises. Back To The Future, Veronica Mars, Firefly, Star Trek (TOS), Rocky (haha)...

I don't know. There were very few details - probably due to the fact that the story evidently wasn't in any way true! It could have been on the Excelsior, could have been at Kirk's wake ... your guess is as good as mine.

I'd be cool with animated DTD Star Trek ... as long as they avoid that godawful "Japanime" style they used for the Halo DVD.
