Ascension promo (Tricia Helfer SyFy miniseries coming in November)

In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the Ascension to populate a new world. SyFy original whatevers just don't bring the same level of anticipation that they once did.

I wonder what the justification for sending people to populate a new world was in 1963. A simple terraforming mission in case we irreversibly screw up this planet or something more nefarious?

Nah, the cold war was just a cover story to hide all the money spent to launch the Ascension.

Looks interesting. I'm thinking at this point that they launched Ascension as a way for humanity to survive in case we and the Soviets nuked each other into oblivion, or something along those lines.

I've been very interested in this since I first heard about it, and this promo looks pretty good. I like the ambiance of the setting. I hope the story lives up to the concept.
