Articles of the Federation - will there be more books

Hi all,

I've just finished AOTF and with being a *huge* West Wing fan as well as a devoted reader of all things trek, I'm just wondering if there are any plans for future books covering the presedent and her staff.

I really enjoyed the book and would hate to see all that character development go to waste.

Just one question on the book, as far as reading order goes would it be best to read the first 2 Titan books before AOTF?

Cheers,

Colin

p.s. To KRAD, don't suppose there's any chance that you'll be writing a West Wing relaunch book, I'd pay big money for that.

I would love to see this but doubt it. This was one of my favorates, Bacco is a great character, makes me laugh my ass off sometimes.

According to KRAD, the book didn't sell well enough to justify a sequel. Mad, mad world.

I'd say it's preferable to read the Titan books before AOTF, because the latter contains a minor spoiler for Book 2 and continues Donatra's story beyond what happens in Titan, but beyond that it's really no big deal if one reads AOTF first.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Agreed, I'd be first in line to pick this up as well, but apparently sales of AotF were low. (Something I'll never understand.)

Maybe an E-Book series follow-up?

^ Something tells me TrekLit hasn't seen the last of the Bacco Administration. Not yet, anyway....

No plans for a direct sequel, no, but the Bacco Administration hasn't been forgotten, either. :D

Actually, it doesn't surprise me. Yes, Articles of the Federation is a good book (although I wouldn't rank it as high as many), but it doesn't appeal to the mainstream readership. It doesn't focus on any of the major characters of Star Trek (yes, Martok and others appear, but they aren't the focus). Instead, the focus is largely on a new cast or recently created characters from previous book(s) based in an infrastructure of The West Wing. If the reader is not a The West Wing fan or had been closely following the A Time to... series, then this book probably won't interest said reader, even if they're a Star Trek fan. I only read the book because I'm a huge fan of The West Wing, but I don't see myself enjoying the book if I wasn't.

I don't see that happening, to be honest. And if there was such a thing, I'd have to write a West Wing novel with no Jed or Leo, no Toby, no C.J., and focusing on the administration of a character I found bland (Santos), which drains much of the joy out of the prospect for me. Having said that, writing a novel that focuses on Josh, Donna, Sam, and Jeaneane Garofalo's character could have a certain appeal... :)

I loved the book, even though I hadn't read the ATT books and the time, and I've never seen a single episode The West Wing. But then again the main reason I read the book was because I heard about how great it was hear, and because I wanted to read something by this KRAD fella here.

And I'm sure there's more people like you, JD, but I don't have a hard time believing that a lot of Star Trek fans aren't.

Yeah, I can deffinitely agree with that. I am an exception to the rule.

Maybe a prequel? I know they did some flashbacks but surely they didn't cover everything prior to Season 1, episode 1.

Actually, there are some fairly large holes in the West Wing timeline -- not the least of it being the year they skipped in the middle of Season Five to bring the series timeline to the next presidential election quicker.

Speaking of President Bacco, AOTF is full of references of her being governor of Cestus III and of a particular event when the planet was invaded by the Gorn during or around the time of the Dominion War...is this a plot from a previous book or short story? I'd love to read it.

Sure, but then season 5 isn't real West Wing. ;)

Yep... That's from the graphic novel The Gorn Crisis by Kevin J. Anderson, et. al.

That would be The Gorn Crisis, a TNG graphic novel published by Wildstorm.

Edit: Oops, beat to the punch. :)

Re: Topic Title: Being one of the 10 people on the planet who have never see "West Wing," I can't compare it. However, I just finished it, thought it was great, and would love to see the characters again in guest roles, short stories, what have you.

Be a good challenge for a writer, though, wouldn't it?
