One of the great Sci-fi writers of the 20th century, Arthur C. Clarke passed away in Colombo, Sri Lanka today at age 90.

Clarke was the author of 2001: A Space Odyssey and the sequels, plus other science fiction novels and short stories.

This probably ought to be moved. But I'm going to look the other way while people take the chance to post their respects for a great writer.

Fancy a coffee, Terri?

Thank you! I hesitated before posting the news of Clarke's death here, but I figured the majority of posters on Fan Fiction were familiar with Clarke and his work.

Childhood's End is actually my favourite of this works.

He will be sorely missed by legions of SF fans

HAIL TO THE CHIEF!!!!!

My favorite too. Then, Imperial Earth. Then Rama. Invented commsats.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is, to a less advanced society, indistinguishable from magic.

Probably not word-for-word but close enough. What a writer. RIP:(

~arranges all of TrekBBS' fan fiction & fan production-related starships in two "Honor Guard" rows as Mr. Clarke is commited to eternity in a Starfleet Casket with a Federation flag lovingly draped over it. The torpedo is slowly, gently, ever-so-respectfully loaded into the launcher by a Starfleet Honor Guard of pall-bearers & dispatched into space between the two rows of starships with full honors in a grand send-off. Everyone from TrekBBS & all the other scifi/fantasy boards attend in their dress uniforms, heads bowed & hands folded neatly in front of them.~

To the grand master of science fiction. May the afterlife of your choosing be bountiful.
