Art Linkletter RIP

R.I.P. Mr Linkletter :(

[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCHIM-bGiTI[/yt]
wow he was married for 65 years..

He is the only person to have five network television shows running in prime time simultaneously

Art Linkletter, one of the last of the original pioneers of TV (for better or for worse many of today's reality shows owe a debt to him), has died at the age of 97. Alex
Shoot, I also thought he'd died years ago. Well, 97 is a damn good run by any standard.

I think Linkletter had more of an influence on the talk-show format than on today's "reality TV." His studio gags, stunts, and audience-participation gimmicks were the inspiration for similar stuff done by Steve Allen, Johnny Carson and David Letterman.

It's noteworthy that he became an outspoken anti-drug crusader after his daughter's suicide (allegedly under the influence of LSD, although an autopsy found no trace of the drug in her system), but later modified his stand on marijuana, saying he considered it relatively harmless. Hmmm . . . wonder if old Art ever lit up a doobie?

May he rest in peace.

I agree on that score. But it was through shows like Kids Say the Darnedest Things, People Are Funny, and House Party that he set many of the standards later followed by shows like America's Funniest Home Videos, for example. I'm not linking him to Survivor, but rather the "man on the street"-style reality show.

I was just reminded that Linkletter was original from my home province of Saskatchewan -- a bit of claim to fame for Canada.

I thought he had been dead for decades. I still remember his face on some of the money from the game LIFE. We are still seeing his influence on TV and will for many years to come. RIP Mr Linkletter.

It's crazy that he wrote an autobiography in 1960!! His life wasn't even half over by that time. Anyway, it is sad to see him go.
