Spoilers Arrow - Season 5

What panel was that from, that seemed like a pretty eclectic group up there.
Do we know yet when Season 4 will be on Netflix? I missed the last three or four episode and they pulled them from Netflix before I could get caught up.
The trailer was OK, definitely not anything amazing, but I enjoyed it.

I knew that, I meant which panel. It looked like people from a bunch of different shows, and usually they do one show at a time, unless it's a special theme.

Ah, that would explain it. I thought maybe it was CW thing when I saw Marie Avgeropoulos and Brandon Routh on either side of David Ramsey, but then I saw Bruce Campbell.

Well, that was... underwhelming. :(

I... kinda liked it.
Looks like they're going for a back-to-street-level approach which is what I hoped for, and choose to be cautiously optimistic about even though I still have serious doubts about the current writing team.
I just hope the endgame isn't going to be destroying Star City... again.

Lundgren being on the show makes think of my Dad. He loved watching Arrow. He had been into Archery his whole life. Even read the orignal Green Arrow comics as a kid in the 1940 and 1950s. When he got Cancer 2 years ago he told me I could delete any other show on his DVR but save Arrow for him. He never lived to see any of season 3. On top that we watched a lot of Dolph's movies when I was growing up. He would have loved this... :(

My mom and stepdad will watch most anything Jason Statham, Steven Seagal, Nicolas Cage or Dolph Lundgren puts out. They know they're terrible but they like the performers and they're guilty pleasures so your story hits home with me. Hopefully the memories raised are more on the sweet side of bittersweet for you.

I'm excited to see ol' Dolph or "Dork Lundgren" as my stepdad likes to call him.

Apparently, even Stephen Amell himself wants TV's Ollie to show and voice his political leanings on-screen.

"I've actually asked the producers... 'What's Oliver's position? What's his stance?' Because the Green Arrow has a long history of being a very liberal, a very 'give back to the people' type of superhero. I would really love for Oliver Queen to take a position within the show, even if it's unpopular. I think it'd be cool."

Why divide your viewer-base by getting into political agenda stuff? This show has always been more Batman then GA; I don't care what political slant 1970s era comics Oliver had. There is enough of that on every other show on TV; they can keep it out of super hero dramas.

That didn't stop Supergirl from being unapologetically progressive and feminist, satirizing Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric, speaking out against illegal detention in the name of national security, etc.

Not to mention that the Arrowverse shows are pretty clearly left-leaning as it is, with their inclusion of gay and lesbian characters, racially diverse casting, and the like. Anyone who'd be offended by liberal politics would've been offended repeatedly already by now.

Superhero stories have been political from the beginning. The first Superman comics portrayed him as a social-activist vigilante fighting for the little guy against the powerful and corrupt, using brute force to deal with any social problem that concerned Siegel & Shuster, from warmongering to slum clearance to reckless driving. The post-WWII Superman radio show frequently did stories condemning racial and religious bigotry and anti-immigrant demagoguery. The creator of Wonder Woman was advancing his belief in feminism and female superiority, as well as subtly advocating for his and his spouse/collaborators' lifestyle of BDSM and free love. Marvel and DC in the '70s both tackled socially relevant issues, which is where Green Arrow's liberalism came from in the first place. Of course, some comics have been more right-leaning, notably Frank Miller's -- and '60s Marvel comics were pretty aggressively anti-Communist.

I don't care about the diversity stuff. Thats normal. Thats not "left leaning" IMO. Inclusion is not the same thing as political agenda. I disliked certain comments at the beginning of Supergirl, but it seemed to be toned down. Tackling an issue from two sides and letting something be open ended and to make the viewer think is fine. There is moral right and moral wrong... and then there is political activism and agendas, which are two totally different things. There is a difference between showing life in all its types and styles, and being put down / preached at by the television that you love. I can totally endorse one.... and completely feel insulted by the other. As always, YMMV.

As for immigration goes, lets not open that door... there is a big difference between legal and illegal immigration, and there is nothing wrong with doing due diligence in checking the background of incoming immigrants. This is exactly my point - why bring in politics that has the possibility of dividing a fanbase, when most of it is flamed by the media to begin with?

Veering back to Arrow.... I can't help but wonder what various roles Katie Cassidy is going to tackle this year with her new contract. Also wondering if they will ever revisit Solomon Grundy, who was teased heavy in Season 2. Still wish to hell they would just give Diggle a damn GL ring.. :D

Nothing would make me happier about the future of the show than if they follow Amell's wishes! Oliver is now a politician he should show his pov on the issues.

TV and fiction in general does that all the time. Books, movies, music, theater and TV are platforms for the ideas and beliefs of the people that create them. This board is dedicated to Star Trek, a show that made it's rep by pushing and preaching the ideas and agenda of it's creators. So it's a funny place to ask for politics to be kept out of fiction.

Of course it is. The only reason inclusion happens is because a lot of people fought hard for a long time advancing the political cause of civil rights and overcoming centuries of institutionalized exclusion. Women's inclusion, racial inclusion, LGBT inclusion, all of it happened because of political activism by millions of brave people who spoke and marched and resisted and sometimes died for their right to be included, and political action by legislators who worked to change the laws to acknowledge that right.

No, they aren't. At least, they aren't always. Politics is a means to an end, a mechanism for advancing a goal. Too often, that goal is merely the advancement of some party's power or some politician's wealth, and that's the kind of politics we disdain. But politics can also be used to pursue very moral goals, like fighting discrimination or ensuring health care for children or keeping lead out of the drinking water.

And why do you assume that just having a character express a point of view has to be preachy? That doesn't make any sense. Most works of fiction have characters expressing multiple different points of view, coming into conflict with each other. Having a point of view is just part of characterization. And the show has never held Oliver up as an infallible role model, so putting an opinion in his mouth isn't the same as preaching it at the audience.

I mean, Oliver is the mayor of Star City. It would be awkward and unnatural if he never had a position on anything political. It's quite possible that Diggle, say, could be more conservative, and he and Ollie could have some good, smart debates that explore both sides of the issues.

Its the difference between TOS and TNG. Either you get what I'm saying or you don't, presentation wise. You can be inclusive without being preachy. Just a personal opinion. At this point I don't need anything more to turn me off to Arrow. The last year and a half has been a bit lackluster all on its own. Not sure I can deal with it being bad AND preachy.... :D
