ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT fans, assemble!

It's very hard to describe AD to someone who hasn't seen it without making it sound like a sitcom.

I've tried to get a friend who generally prefers things like Six Feet Under and I, Claudius (though I got her hooked on Queer as Folk) into it based on the show's enormously clever use of wordplay, which I think she'd appreciate, but I've hit a bit of a wall, especially since the show's in shorter chunks (i.e. sitcom-length).

I loved this show, Fox was stupid for canceling it, like they're stupid for killing a bunch of things.

*angry face*

I've made a huge mistake......entering this thread.

Just kidding, this is the best show evar.

Lucille Bluth is probably my favorite, but all the characters are so damn good really.

Love the Arrested Development sad walk:

George Michael's walk was better, since he walked past Snoopy's house. :D

Tobias: "I'm afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run if you will, so I'm afraid I have something of a mess on my hands."

Tobias: "Ooh, I can taste those meaty, leading man parts in my mouth!"

What you gotta do is buy a tape recorder and record yourself for one day.

Mr. F! For British eyes only!

Tobias:

[/I]Tobias: "Ooh, I can taste those meaty, leading man parts in my mouth!"

Is it sad that I totally missed that double entendre till this exact moment? Lol, so awesome.

For whatever reason the idea of the show didn't draw me in.
I've had trouble convincing people about the show because the premise sounds clichéd: A family of rich eccentrics lose their money and have to learn to live with one another. That doesn't sound like the sort of premise that provides fresh, original comedy. It doesn't help that some of the best jokes require an understanding of the show, how can you adequately explain the joke about Buster having his hand bitten off by a loose seal without knowing his relationship with his mother? On paper it's a bad pun, but when seen in context it is just one of the show's many layers.

On a side note, I'm most of the way through the first season and I'm ashamed to admit that I completely forgot about Annyong (Hel-loh).

I think what makes the show so funny is what makes inside jokes funny. The humor just builds on itself over time from previous experiences. Also a like an inside joke, when you come in in the middle it doesn't tend to come off as funny and it's difficult to explain to people that haven't been there for everything. I really wished it could have been picked up by HBO or Showtime.
