Aron Eisenberg (Nog) suspended from Facebook over Holocaust photos

You are totally right. We're a lot that gets side-tracked easile because discussions are fun.

The best part of this thread truly were the "rhymes with vile" bits.

Facebook is one of the primary interfaces people communicate on. Journalists quote what people say on it, intelligence agencies sift through it, stuff that happens on facebook is not necessarily less because it happened virtually rather than in front of a crowd in the street. So yes, what gets censored by Facebook is relevant. It's easy to say people take it too seriously, but at this point it's like going back to the 70's and saying people take what's said on the phone too seriously. It's communication, it has meaning.

I like Facebook for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is that it has let me reconnect with old friends and classmates from my school and college years that I haven't seen in twenty or more years. Without social media I may never have spoken to nor seen any of those people again and their post-high school and college lives would have remained mysteries. FB has its annoying moments and the trolls there can be some of the worst on the Internet, but when it hits all the right notes it is one of the most useful websites I've ever encountered in all the years I've spent online.

It's reconnected me with some people and helped me start and build friendships with others. It can be obnoxious, petty and vacuous like many other corners of the Web, but it's been a lot of fun for me and it does more good than harm. I like it. A lot. It can be a sloppy and irritating mess when it wants, but then so can most other avenues of entertainment and education.

Same as eddie, it's been great for finding folks from back when. Having booted of overseas, it was easy to lose track of a lot of folks so FB has been a plus that way. Of course, there are downsides like finding out once thought to be sane relatives are now gone off into Trumpty Dumbty Land has been a surprise, too.

Don't worry, it's just a phase they're going through, although their choices in 2020 and 2024 are going to make you laugh like a hyena.
