Armada III

Tiberius Jim

Vice Admiral

Is anybody else playing this unofficial sequel to the Armada series? It's technically a mod for the space RTS Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, but is just about exactly what you would want from a true sequel to Armada I & II, minus the campaign story mode. I do believe the dev team has something in the works, but for now it is only single player skirmishes. There already have an expansion due for December that includes the Dominion and the Cardassians. Anyway, it requires a purchase of the source game but the mod is free and of very high quality. Here's a link to the home site as well as some of my own screenshots.

I wish it was turn-based. Looks very neat though.

Why would you want that? Armada was an RTS.

If any one is interested there is a second Star Trek mod for SoSE called Sacrifice of Angles 2. It is at a more mature stage of development and also recieves regular updates.

Currently I would say these two mods are at the forefront of Star Trek gaming. Unlike the MMO these two mod teams have put a lot of effort into authenticity as well as fairly sound adherence to canon while managing to keep it fun at the same time. :techman:

Looks amazing! Unfortunately my PC is 7 years old and can't run anything, I mainly play games on my console now. However if I do ever get a decent PC I will definitely be checking this out!

I've got the mod and am just now waiting for the Call to Arms expansion to come out. It's a fantastic mod. It looks great and I've had fun playing it.

Seen the SOA2 mod, but it doesn't look to have the quality of the Armada III mod.

Hmm I think I have bought that game from Steam some time ago. Guess its time to re-download it and install the mod.

Well i installed this mod assuming it is all done via auto installer, but i have not been able to play, run or even see it in the mod section of the game, so i have no idea what do to.

I really liked Armada (and Armada 2, to some extent), I just prefer turn-based strategy games these days.

I liked Armada and its mods as well; but I've sometimes wondered, what if there was a Star Trek fleet battle game using the same design as the Fire Emblem games or Final Fantasy Tactics?

I think it would be sweet.

IIRC, in the olden days of Battlefield 2 and Starfleet Command full-conversion mods, an additional parameter needed to be added to the load command within the shortcut to the main game to tell it which installed mod to use. It may be something as simple as that. If the mod comes with a readme file, it likely contains information on how to tell the main game that the mod exists.

Sadly, my PC is woefully out of date and can't run newer games like this.

I really liked Armada for the single player campaign. Probably because I only had dial-up at the time when they came out at the time. I still commend the effort that was made to create a mod, especially a Trek mod, of this quality. Too bad the game's mechanics are sophisticated; my attention span is shorter than the learning curve.

You likely just need to change the enablemods.txt file. He talks about it around 3:40.

^^I managed to get it after all bud, seems the auto loader had to have a small manual name change in the detination that it picked by default, but thanks for the help. ;)

This mod is pretty fun. I haven't quite mastered it yet. Looking forward to the big update coming Monday. :)

I've been playing the fleet operations mod for Armada II. It basically modernizes the game and is quite amazing!

You need to have the original Armada II game installed in order to play.

I just introduced my brother to this as well. It is really impressive while staying true to the original game.

I've been playing that for years. It's great and I look forward to the new version they're working on with the new game engine. I just am excited to have something else to play in the meantime. The Armada III: Call to Arms update just came out!
