Area 52 TV series

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Based on the comic book.

The comic focused on a top secret warehouse in Antarctica called Area 52, a government storage dump for otherworldly discoveries, manned by a ragtag group of misfits who have been exiled to the middle of nowhere to staff it. When an alien killing machine is accidentally hatched in this repository, the group must band together and use the stored mythological weapons and artifacts to save themselves and the world.
So how does the comic book differ from Warehouse 13 (which I've passed on; too cookie cutter)? Is there a potential for this to go more in the direction of The Walking Dead in terms of tone? I'm interested in the premise, as long as it's not handled in the lightweight way (Warehouse 13 already has that covered, so it would be pointless anyway).

No mention of where this show might end up. Hopefully anywhere on cable that's not SyFy. ;)

Oddly, I've never even heard of this comic (well, it's Image, so maybe not so odd). It does sound a lot like Warehouse 13, so it's unlikely to be picked up by Sciffy. I guess it all depends on the tone and so forth-- maybe it will be on HBO. :rommie:

The comic is old, I saw it on the shelves in 2002, and passed on it because it was too derivative of Planetary.

It can't be worse than that Area 51 Boxelitner bullshit that came out last year.

Actually, since Eureka is ending after next season, isn't Warehouse 13 looking to do a spin off? Seems to me, if the rumors I've heard about a WH13 spinoff are true, Area 52 could fit.

^^ It does seem to say that, now that you mention it.

I think they're planning an HG Wells spin off, or so I've heard.

Well, he obviously designed the BBC iPlayer 'cause the volume does go up to 11.

If Area 52 does show up as a movie, I'll wait for it on DVD as a rental. I've never been able to care much about Warehouse 13 or A Town Called Eureka as they seem too shallow and fluffy. The Lost Room miniseries was more interesting with its use of weird artefacts, but it might have gotten pretty boring if it had had a long run.
