Are you superstitious about Friday the 13th?

On Friday, September 13th, 1974-- when I was 13 years old-- The Night Stalker and Planet Of The Apes TV shows premiered. The season premiere of Six-Million-Dollar Man was also on. I've considered Friday the 13th to be lucky ever since. :D

When I was a teenager, my Uncle Mike gave me a key chain with the number 13 on it because I was the kind of kid who always shook my fist at superstition. :mallory:

Whenever I sit further back in the airplane, I always make an effort in checking to see if there's an aisle 13.

Some don't, but I've been on planes that do have it though. At least made me chuckle.

Hmm, I'm really not that superstitious about the day, but of course I pay more attention to bad things that happen on this day because I'm more aware, and stuff that I wouldn't think of otherwise, suddenly seem more important.

For instance, this day, I wasn't able to make a transfer on my online bank. It just crashed on me. :p

But the online bank has crashed before on other days as well, but I just notice it more because of the date, even though I know it shouldn't matter ;)

Well, I never used to think much of the day, but for the past year my Friday the 13ths have been pretty bad days. Losing jobs, things breaking, dinner spilling everywhere after I make it, an exceptional number of disgusting insects and arachnids showing up around me, etc. I've actually been having a really terrible day today, and I didn't even realize it was the 13th until about half an hour ago. It's just coincidence, but because of some of the unfortunate events that have occurred I will always remember it as a bad day.

Friday the 13th doesn't hold any kind of meaning other than being a Friday.

I'm not the least bit suspicious; in fact, some very good things have happened to me on Friday the 13th.

But not this time. Today sucked ASS. I didn't even think about it being Friday the 13th. *shrug* Oh well.

AFAIK the superstition is a fusion of two unrelated superstitions:

(1) In religious times, some notable bad things happened on a Friday.

The thinking was, that Friday might be cursed, or whatever.

(2) In duodecimal times, things were made and sold in batches of 12. But quite often an extra item was made incase one of the batch went wrong.

The thinking was, if one did go wrong, you'd still have 12 good ones, and 'the 13th' would be the bad/unlucky one.

Friday the 13th was/is simply a double whammy of bad luck. I'm not sure how the size of a batch becomes a day of the month, but there it is!
