Are you planning on seeing the film in IMAX??

I know that none of the film was done using the IMAX technique, like certain scenes from The Dark Knight, but reports are saying that Paramount will be converting it to IMAX. In addition to it still being a better way to experiece a visual SFX film like this, IMAX theaters also offer unsurpassed sound.

ARe you going to see it your first time at an IMAX?

Keep in mind also that most IMAX theaters have 1 screen only, and when Night at the museum opens shortly thereafter, also in some IMAX venues, that theater owneers may deicde to stop ST and run NATM instead because it's newer.

The moral: plan to see it IMAX in the first week if at all.

Should JJ have shot this film in IMAX?

I was hoping that they would be showing it on an Imax screen. Put me down as one of those who plans to see it on the Imax screen.

Perhaps for a second viewing. I've not always found IMAX presentations of films without IMAX footage to be impressive.

My sons and my friends will be in line for the first midnight showing in IMAX. We'll be the group withOUT the rubber pointy ears.

If it's going to be in IMAX on opening night, then I will.

If not, I'd rather see the movie than wait a week or more.

Will they cut material out though? Don't they cut out material from films shown in IMAX sometimes because the film is so big? Most IMAX films made especially for the format are about 45 minutes long. I imagine they probably take up as much space on the platter as a full feature.

IIRC 2 hours is the limit. Don't quote me on that.

They won't cut anything out. The will simply project it on an IMAX screen at its normal aspect ratio (with the same kind of "bars" above and below the image on the screen as you see with widescreen movies on TV--just not blacked out). The idea is that it will be bigger than on a conventional screen and it will have the best available sound system. It's been done lots of times with films that were not shot with IMAX cameras.

I was referring to individual scenes and shots, not the aspect ratio. Though when I saw one of the Harry Potter films in IMAX it appeared to be in the IMAX aspect ratio (though it might not have been, it was like four years ago).

Some films screened in IMAX theatres are hybrids like you describe (Dark Knight being the most recent I've seen) but many are not hybrids and contain no IMAX footage. I suspect if any of this was shot in IMAX, it would have leaked by now.

If the movie is uncut, and in the proper aspect ratio, then I'd love to see it in IMAX. I'll probably see it more than once anyway, so maybe I'll even see it in IMAX if it doesn't meet those qualifications. Sounds fun.

Closest IMAX screen to me is in Denver.

Too far to go less I go with someone who has a car and we plan it far in advance to make it an all day event type deal with Star Trek.

(namely call it Star Trek day)

Otherwise I'd so go see it on an IMAX screen for certain if it wasn't a chore just to get to an IMAX theater.

Spell check keeps going nuts when I type IMAX imagine that.
