Are we headed towards a Breen like society?

So, was surfing memory alpha the other day, and came upon the Breen, and I remembered how in the Lit Verse that they explained why they were in masks and suits.
The breen wear the masks not for diseases ( i guess it would work for that as well) but to make Everyone faceless. In the books, the breen are not 1 species, but multipule species from around there area, and they all wear the same mask and uniforms so that there is uniformity and no species violence or stuff like that.

Just thought.. are we going this way? I know the masks to day are for the virus, but could we be pushed to this orwellian socity? no color, no gender, no outside markers for anyone to key off of..

any thoughts??

Well... there's a large variety of masks. In fact, at this very moment there's an ad on the right side margin of my page which shows several designs. You can make your mask look however you want, and even make it bizarre or subversive. It's not like we all end up looking the same when we cover our faces. I've been thinking about going around looking like a 17th-century plague doctor, myself.
