Hi
are they going to make any new star trek series? or this is it... nothing in the near future?
what about films - will we see any film with the series actors?

No TV series for the forseeable future. No films starring the TV series actors. Sorry.

There's a new big-budget film coming in 2012 starring the new (old) crew from the 2009 film, and maybe one more a few years later.

All the old crews' adventures continue in the various novel series', if you're into books.

too bad
it's a shame they didn't made a movie with archer or with sisko or kate... just kirk & picard all the time. (they are good but why only them)?

^Because TOS and TNG were far more popular than DS9, VOY or ENT ever were. In the case of Enterprise, it was cancelled after four (of seven planned) seasons because not enough people were watching it on TV - a movie starring them very probably wouldn't have been successful.

Sad to say, but KingDaniel is right.
I have heard Paramount owns the rights to Trek movies, and CBS owns the rights to TV Trek. Paramount's focus is the new JJ Abrams Star Trek movie time line. CBS is run by Les Moonves, and the likely hood of CBS producing a Trek show is very low.

If CBS would sell TV Trek to the SyFy Channel, or some other media more open to a new Trek show....but I digress.

Yeah, they really are... There's probably no chance we'll see a TV show for at least 10 years would be my guess and then it may just be a reboot of TOS or TNG. And it's already been mentioned, but they'd never do a VOY, DS9, or ENT movie because the shows were not very successful.

It would be a long time before we have a Star Trek series again. Could be 5 to 10 (just a guess) years before we start having a few new trek series again lol

Does the world really need another Star Trek series? I'd watch it if one was created, but there is such a thing as too much. There are almost 30 seasons of Star Trek. That is quite a bit.

^You picked the wrong part of the internet to say that!

A new Star Trek series could be great - but it would need new writers and producers with fresh ideas, something we saw too little of in the TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT era. STXI proved a different take on Trek can be successful - I'd be thrilled if the makers of Fringe gave weekly Star Trek a whirl one day.

^No...please. Those SyFy shows are often horrible.
...but some are good, too. Stay positive! :)

And it wouldn't have to be just a SyFy channel produced show...just syndicated there, and produced elsewhere.

But in all likelyhood, we won't see a new Trek Series for a long, long time, anyway. My impression is that the movies are the focus right now, and that is it.

Moonves--I mean, CBS--is very pleased with the way things currently stand with Trek. Paramount revitalized the brand with Star Trek XI, and CBS can enjoy the benefits of that without having to invest in a new TV series.

I can see what you mean. They own the rights to the series catalog from TOS to Enterprise, don't they? All they have to do is sit back and rake in the royalties from DVD sales, as well as on air re-runs. I wonder if they get any royalties for Hulu or other internet viewing?

CBS holds the license to everything Trek--Paramount has the rights to make Star Trek movies, but only under license from CBS. As a result, if there's any kind of money involved with Trek, CBS gets a cut without even having to raise a finger.

Yup: I love "Star Trek" as produced, written, and acted in the 1960s. I just don't care if there's another series set in that universe.

It would be nice to have at least 5 to 10 new Trek series. Have 3 to finish off the 24th century and and a few in the 25th century.

Would also be cool to have a Enterprise B series and also a Enterprise C series. Also a Stargazer series but probably won't happen anyways lol

Wanna talk about overkill!

Eventually they will. But there's nothing on the horizon right now. The problem is that CBS owns the rights and I don't see why they'd be interested, either for themselves or for their outlets (CW and Showtime).

Nimoy is likely to have been the last. There's an outside chance that some of the other TOS originals might have cameos in future films. Don't hold your breath for TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT.

A new series would be made for people who would not be able to tell you how many previous series there were, if their lives depended on it. So the number of previous seasons is irrelevant. The number (in dollars) that a new series could add to CBS' bottom line is the only one that counts.

Only CBS has the rights to produce Star Trek, and nobody produces shows for other outlets anymore. Not sure why, there's some business reason for it. They probably makes more $$ producing only for their own outlets. SyFy is owned by NBC-Universal.

Modern Family is produced by 20th Century Fox Television for ABC.
