Are the Star Wars prequels really that unpopular?

I hadn't seen the prequels since 2005 when ROTS came out. I recently watched a bunch of clips on Youtube. They're visually impressive with great music and sound effects, but they're dull. Just dull and stiff. And Hayden Christensen is just painful to watch.

If Anakin had been more of a charming and charismatic rebel, he could have filled the Han Solo role for example. It would have made his fall to the dark side much more dramatic as well.

This pretty much nails it for me. They made Anakin so unlikable that I didn't care that he fell to the Dark Side.

Jake Lloyd should have still played Anikan in second and third movie.

What 10 year old wouldn't move heaven and earth to help a 24 year old Natalie Portman bathe?

What if twisting the force to make her love him, to brainwash the democratically elected princess into a paedophile, is what turned little orphan Annie to the Darkside?

Of course, if she was the aggressor, then being "forced" into an adult relationship before he had any hair under his meat and potatoes, could have also as easily pushed him over the edge, and might have been a reason for some one killing her in the 5th act of the third movie.

But still, if I had to change anything, Obiwan would have fathered those children.

Everything is unpopular on the internet. They made bajillions of dollars. Some of the acting is atrocious, but I enjoy most aspects.

[snipped the usual proof that Guy is some variant of mad genius]

I honestly feel bad for Jake Lloyd. The poor guy must break out in hives at the mention of the words "Star Wars" today.

Likewise, when Annie is ordered to kill "Yuenglings," he fires up his LASER Sword and a kid is startled, but that is all.

Then Obi-Wan finds all their crumpled bodies on the floor. That part of the movie really bothers me, I've only seen ROTS a couple of times and that is partly why. A PG-13 is only a warning so it's not like people aren't free to take kids to see it if they want.

IME, the only people who like the prequels are the under 25 crowd. Cause to them it's their stuff. The over 25 crowd like the OT cause it's there stuff.

As for broad-spectrum appeal, as in non-sci-fi fans, just average folk? I'd say the majority of such would find fault with both (ones dated, ones poorly written/directed) but say that as a whole they're all the same to them one way or the other.

Fan opinion though seems split by a generation line. What you grew up with is what you like most.

Yup, lines have been drawn.

Where in history is the Jar Jar Binks line?

Well in that case I'm VERY glad I was born during the OT generation. ;)

I think Barney Stinson's theory on Star Wars demographics has a lot of truth to it.
People who hate the Prequels are usually those who grew up with the Originals.

They're popular. They're just not good

"And Candle in the Wind by Sire Elton John is the most popular song ever. Popular should doesn't mean right." - Penn Juliet

I don't like them, but to be fair I don't really like Episode 6 that much either.

Hoth is where it is at.

Once we get "Episode Seven: The Advertisement Continues", I can see a lot of people starting to say, "You know, I guess Jar-Jar really isn't so bad..."

I concur ...
