Are Critics going to "kill" Star Trek XI, regardless?

We've got ten months before it premieres...a mite early to worry about what kind of reviews it'll get and if it'll kill the movie or not.

I've probably said this before, but it bears repeating: this movie will re-launch the Star Trek franchise and re-define its identity for a new generation for some time to come. Some will hate it, some will love it. My hunch is that I will be in the latter category. And enough people will join me to make it a solid success.

Why would Star Trek fans be angry about a new Star Trek film that brings back the series most popular characters as well as Leonard Nimoy?

Because it's not 10,000% eaxctly what they wanted.

What has history shown us? That only fans care about Trek. There will be no main stream audience for this. With that said do the fans want a different spin on Trek? If we had a differnet spin on Trek when it started it wouldn't have made it. It is what it is.

Yeah, I don't get comments like this when history has shown otherwise time and again. When the movie is good, it crosses over into the general audience. When it's not, they stay away in droves. This is especially true when the Trek fanbase badmouths the movie. The feeling in the general audience is then, "Well, if Trekkies don't like it, I probably won't either."

And I'm with Abrams; keep it on the downlow to avoid badmouthing by purists who tend to be the most vocal.

Frankly, from what little we have seen, I'm beginning to foam at the mouth a little (in a good way).

With the recent successes of Batman, Iron man, Incredible Hulk, Serenity, BSG, etc, critics will be chomping at the bit to have a revitalized Star Trek. If anything, they will be wanting to give favorable reviews.

I've had this unfortunate feeling that regardless of the quality of script/acting/effects, critics and angry trek fans are going to kill this movie before it even has a chance.

If this movie flops, does that mean the end of the Star Trek dynasty for good?

There are going to be critics who hate trek, and will not matter what try to trash it, just like any past trek film, good plot, effects, etc.
