Are any of the old Batman movies worth seeing?

A couple of the things I dislike about Batman Returns: there's this whole subplot about the Penguin's plan to kill all the first born children of Gotham City. And I swear Batman stops the plan in about thirty seconds, and it's never mentioned again. If you're going to set up a huge villainous plan, can we at least see some part of it come to fruition?

Another thing: Batman ripping off his mask in front of Catwoman and Max Schreck. Lucky for Bruce they both just happened to die a few minutes later, huh?

I also seem to remember Bruce getting a CD player to make turntable scratching noises... but maybe I just dreamed that.

Oh yeah, I like BATMAN RETURNS, but you can go nuts trying to keep track of all the aborted plotlines. What's the Penguin's master plan again? He's going to kidnap all the firstborn . . . no, wait, he's going to run for Mayor of Gotham . . . no, wait, he's going to launch rocket-powered penguins at the city . . . .

And what about Max Schreck's evil power generator, the one that's going to suck all the energy out of Gotham? He murders Selina Kyle when she finds out about it, then it's never mentioned again!

Great acting and atmosphere. The plot makes no sense whatsoever.

He's the fucking Batman. He had the CD player already prepared with scratching noises.

Which reminds me of one of Pfiefer's best lines in the film, "Batman. Or is it The Batman?"

^^No, he's the goddamn Batman. And the f(censored)ing Batgirl, except when the censor bars are misprinted. Important to get these details right.

So did Schumacher ever explain why he put nipples on the Batsuit? Was that just a way for him to piss off all the fans?

He said they were inspired by statues of Greek Gods, as were pretty much the entire "build" of the suits.

My guess is that he's gay for man-nipples and rippled chests, not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's also my guess he's mostly an uncreative hack.

Captain Worf,

Definitely see Tim Burton's Batman Returns. It is a bit of a mess story-wise, but boasts good performances by Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Danny DeVito as the Penguin, and Christopher Walken as evil indusrialist Max Shreck.

Batman Forever has some good stuff, like Jim Carrey's performance as the Riddler, and I like how they made Robin a bit darker.

Batman & Robin is a complete mess. They totallly mess up the characters of Poison Ivy, Mister Freeze, and its Bane is the most ridiculous version. Schwarzenegger's portrayal of Freeze is a train wreck of massive proportions.

And unlike the haters here, I like Tim Burton's first Batman, which is now 20 years old. It was the first serious take in live action on the character, after the more popular but campy 60s version most people know of, and which was quite a popular phenomenon in its day -- everyone wanted to be on the show, and it cast such actors as Joan Collins, Milton Berle, Tallulah Bankhead, Walter Slezak, Art Carney, even Liberace played a Bat-Villain!

A slow moving circus train rolls around the city with known criminals abducting wealthy kids...where's the Gotham P.D.?

They only chase Batman!

Joker's parade in BATMAN...no cops. It was announced on t.v., too.

Gotham needs Internal Affairs, not Baman.

Batman Returns and the 60's tv movie (I think it was a tv movie) you should watch.

It was not a TV movie. It was a theatrical release. It was fairly common back then to have theatrical films based on current TV series with the shows' original casts, as was done with such shows as Dragnet, The Munsters, and McHale's Navy.

In fact, the movie was meant to come before the series, so that the producers could use the feature-film budget for vehicles, sets, and stock footage that they could then reuse in the series, making it look better than it otherwise would on a TV budget. But the film had to be delayed by a year, which is why the Batcopter and Batboat didn't get added to the Bat-repertoire until the second Bat-season (sorry, it's habit-forming).
