.....is to the music of the 21st century what Pink Floyd was to the music of the 20th.

That is all. :)

I love this band. As a Canadian, I find a good chunk of our music acts are pretty bad (I'm looking at you, Nickelback and Celine Dion), but then you have bands like Arcade Fire and Sloan, and they more than make up for the crap.

:techman:

I like what I've heard from them. I need to pick something up. Album recommendations? On a side note, however, I have to say that to me, The Flaming Lips are the modern-day equivalent of Pink Floyd. Seeing them live is quite the experience. Wayne Coyne lives near me, actually. Fans who drive by to get a look at him, he'll have them doing his yard work, lol.

They're a solid band, but I'm not prepared to make any bold statements about them (or any other band) of this decade.

The Funeral or Neon Bible. You can't go wrong with either! :techman:

Hmmm...in terms of show, I may or may not agree (I've never seen the Lips live). But, in terms of pushing the ideas of music, instruments, and composition, Arcade Fire has the same feel that Dark Side of the Moon or Live at Pompeii gave off during Floyd's Roger Waters era. Others may see it differently.

But they are wrong. :p

Arcade Fire most obviously rules them all.

You, sir, are a disgrace to message boards. Where is the required knee-jerk reaction and flaming? How dare you be civil and reasonable. I'll have none of that!

Feist is also pretty good too. Don't forget Feist!

Meh. My kids ike 'em. They also like Bloody Beetroots and techno doofdoof. Nuff sed.

^ The Crookers and the Blutonium Boys are the two names that come to mind. They... don't do anything for me.

They also like the Prodigy and the Chemical Bros, but I like some of their stuff, especially 'Do It Again' and 'Star Guitar' (which has a really clever film clip and is available on YouTube).

If you had said Nickelback were the Beatles of this decade, then you would have been flamed (although, in my defense, I consider any praise of Nickelback to be trolling ;) ). I like Arcade Fire, though. They have a nice sound to them.

Whew! I thought all the video games got burned up.

Sending to TV & Media....

I haven't heard anything by them except that one hit which I did really like. Comparing anyone to my all-time fave The Floyd is a tall comparison though. Hate to sound like an old geezer, but they really don't make music with that level of diversity, depth and experimentation anymore. I'll have to give Arcade Fire a listen to though.

No, exactly, they don't. That's why AF is such a breath of fresh air. And don't go in expecting Floyd II. Just expect a band that uses an enormous multitude of instruments, sounds, voices, and ideas to create an entirely brand new sound for the music industry. Technically, their music is astonishing. And listened to just for pleasure, it's just as wonderful... :techman:

And the Dears, the Tragically Hip, the Weakerthans, and most members of the New Pornographers. Any word against any of them will result in me killing everyone. And I mean everyone.

Anyway, I've never been ridiculously impressed by Arcade Fire--I've found they have that odd sameness to their music that plagues too much of indie rock (Beirut, Mountain Goats, and Death Cab for Cutie, I'm looking at you for this.)
